Vehicle Detail

1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. This is the holy grail of Cruisers. 1983 was the last US import year, 300 came to the US, of that only 30 came with factory air conditioning and power steering. This FJ offered is 1 of those 30. Of those 30 only 15 are known or assumed to still exist, I’ve owned 4 of them, this is the last one I own. My professional FJ40 restoration shop just completed this vehicle; we restored this to a spectacular quality much better than it came from the factory. This vehicle has only test/tune miles on it since completion. I’ve owned over 700 FJ40’s, I know where the weak points are, I restored this truck to look better, drive and handle better, last longer than Toyota ever intended. I bought this truck from the original owner’s family 99.8% rust free, I also bought that same family’s other 83 AC/PS, restored and sold it recently to Hollywood CA, never offered for sale, sold mid-restoration. I was holding this 83 for myself, I restored it to keep forever, but I could use the money more than the truck to expand my restoration business, so take advantage. Thanks to eBay and other forums my FJ restoration business has exploded with work, I have to expand my 4000 ft shop to 8000. I have full picture documentation of this vehicle before/during/after restoration. You can see exactly what you are getting, most shops will never show you the before shots when dealing with FJ40’s as they are almost all rusted out to begin with. So, you are getting a rust free start, a beautiful restoration, my BIN price is 60% of what it would take a shop to build this truck in a retail setting if they could wait years to find an 83 PS/AC. This is investment grade, blue chip, serious collector, best of breed, safe to claim the most desirable and nicely restored FJ40 on the planet. If you demand the best, this is for you. I sold an identical 83 around 7 years ago at 125k, but I know I will never get close to that mark these days. The market will come back, this is an asset that will appreciate over time, I wish my pockets were deep enough to keep it. Just about everything is new or refurbished on this vehicle. I used Toyota New Old Stock parts as much as I could, pulled out all the new OE parts from my storage not available anymore from my years of parts collecting, bought the best of everything for this restoration. Rather than listing each new part, I will say it is all new or refurbished meaning anything that needed attention got replaced. This truck has 79,xxx original miles on it, spent most of its life in the high desert of New Mexico, then the last couple years in the high desert of eastern Washington. I built this FJ40 for myself with the intention of keeping it for life. This type of build takes phone calls all over the world tracking down parts, many trips to the hardware store, piles of time not in budget (always on any high end build) 1-2 years typical build time, budget extended, or you can buy this, know what you are paying, and enjoy it now. I went way too far on this restoration, my cost is over 80k, it stings to know I will take a tremendous loss on this vehicle. This restoration is brand spanking new, I have not driven it other than to test it out. I’ve found building daily driving FJ40s in the 20-35k range is where it’s at. All the extra work and best materials do not translate into money in this economy. So, take advantage, I’m letting this FJ40 go no reserve meaning bid to buy, the market will prove the real value. Copy and Paste or click on Photobucket link below to see full picture documentation regarding this build. 422 pictures! http://s953.photobucket.com/albums/ae11/fj40man79/1983%20Red%20FJ40/ I did my best with pictures, I’m no pro photographer, but I took them in my shop under fluorescent lights, in high noon outside in front of my shop, at dusk on my father in law’s farm in the sun, then in the shade, hopefully gives a good contrast. Apologize about my wife and mother in law in the background in some picsJ so it’s confirmed my photo skills are not pro! Many on eBay claim to have done a perfect FJ restoration, ask them for the pictures to prove it. Most will have no documentation because the vehicle is being oversold or the restoration was done 15 years ago, or my competitors are doing “quick flips” on vehicles they did nothing more than spray tire shine on that need thousands in repairs not mentioned in their listing. Older restorations look good in pictures, park that next to my brand new restored FJ and look in person, the difference is night and day. I’m saying I’ll take the Pepsi Challenge against any FJ out there. I do inspections often for eBayers, and rarely do vehicles stack up to the hype. If you demand the best, here it is! I hope my years of perfect eBay feedback selling FJ40’s is proof I do what I say. Fads regarding any collector vehicle come and go, such as pro-street, resto mod, pro-touring etc. The FJ40 has increased in popularity resulting in aftermarket companies in California putting out $150,000 custom vehicles. Yes, those are cool, but original type collector vehicles never go out of style and appreciate the best dollar wise. The 1983 factory AC/PS FJ40 non-rusty with full restoration documentation is as good as it gets. MECHANICAL The original numbers matching 2F motor runs absolutely perfect. I changed out the stock carburetor and air cleaner (included if desired) for a modern day Weber carburetor. The OE carb is near worthless, they rarely run correctly, the Weber makes more power, better mileage, and is much more dependable. The air conditioning works perfectly, blows very cold at 32 from the vents. The power steering works perfectly. I added Auburn Limited Slip differentials to both axles. This is a $2500 upgrade; these units are great, drive like an open differential on the pavement, but lock in when losing traction on loose surfaces. The original 4 speed transmission and transfer case operate perfectly; I had the drive lines balanced. The OE disc brake front axle and rear drum brake axle stop perfectly. I put a quiet exhaust system on. The original wheels are powder coated with new BFG All Terrain 31.10.5.15 tires. California residents will have to take any FJ40 post 1975, including this one to an emissions shop to make it compliant. I do not have the equipment to do CA requirements. Any part needed is easily purchased through SOR in CA. BODY I bought this FJ40 99.8% rust free which is absolutely incredible. I got it original paint; all the sheet metal is original to this truck. We cut out the small rust hole in the back and replaced it with metal, we also took out the auxiliary fuel tank and TIG welded in the patch panel where the filler neck was. The hard top and doors were never removed prior to me restoring it. We took apart the vehicle and painted the entire truck to a show quality spectacular finish. We used PPG base coat in the factory color “Freeborn Red” and did 5 coats of PPG clear. We wet sanded the primer, then the base coat, then the clear coat. This paint job has less orange peel than my brand new BMW. FJ40’s came with an inferior single stage paint (part of the reason for the rust in most) For comparison, materials to do a single stage OE paint would be around $1500, to do the best PPG base/clear as we did on this job was nearly $9000. That is just the materials, not the hundreds of hours in labor. The frame and suspension are coated with a semi-gloss black POR-15, which is the best stuff available. Every little piece on this FJ got attention with great detail. New stainless steel bolts throughout. Rather than rambling on and on and boring you to tears, I’ll let the pictures on the photobucket link do most of the talking, if you have additional questions please feel free to ask. Items for consideration to add are a Warn winch and bumper, mats, plate holder. The winch ranges from $1200-2800 depending which set-up you want. I will install it all for $250, you buy all the parts and send them to me. The factory floor mats were thrown away by accident, if you want mats, we can search for used original, NOS, or aftermarket, you buy and send them to me, I’ll install for free. Also, front license plate holder on backorder, some states only give you 1 rear mounted plate for vintage vehicles, so that is up to you as well. I have a clean clear WA state title in my name for this FJ40. I will sell this one to an international buyer. I have a shipping broker whom has done perfect for me the last 65 shipments; I will put you in contact with him or work with your desired shipper. My broker only ships within the lower 48. I require you pay for enclosed shipping on this vehicle. I will deliver this FJ40 to the Seattle WA area barge dock for international buyers in my enclosed trailer for $500, it is several hundred miles away. I’ve done this several times so it is any easy process minus the paperwork. International buyers are better off hiring a professional exporter to do the paperwork. I require a $2000 non-refundable deposit via PayPal directly after the completed auction. (No exceptions, deposit not received immediately will result in vehicle being put back up for sale) The remainder must be paid in full within 7 days closed auction. On this FJ40, I will only accept a bank to bank wire transfer on the balance. I send you the title and BOS overnight once the funds are confirmed, no escrow; the vehicle does not leave my property until paid in full. I welcome any 3rd party inspection during the auction. I own Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections so skip me when looking in the phone book. I will provide a professional appraisal with this vehicle. Thank you for looking, I’m glad to speak with any interested party on the phone about this vehicle. I demand this sale to be enjoyable by all parties, I’m not a used car salesman, you are buying this truck from owner/builder. There is no comparable vehicle to set this against, I believe this truck sets the benchmark for all FJ’s. Test drive only with bank statement proving you have the funds to buy this vehicle. IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 10 FEEDBACK PLEASE EMAIL ME YOUR PHONE #, TOO MANY PROBLEMS IN THE PAST. I WILL CANCEL BIDS OTHERWISE. I’M NOT EXCITED ABOUT TAKING THIS LOSS, SO PLEASE MAKE THIS HASSLE FREE FOR ME, I’LL DO MY BEST TO HELP OUT THE NEW OWNER IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE. Landcruiser fj 40 fj45 bj40 bj42 hummer jeep unimog classic vintage 4x4 antique tlc 3b diesel lhd rhd On Jul-27-12 at 21:07:52 PDT, seller added the following information:Many questions already so I need to clarify. The first time this vehicle has been offered for sale was 1 week ago. I had it on a BIN or make offer option. I spoke on the phone about this truck 7-10 times a day during that week. Most phone calls were 20-45 minutes long, most ended in the question on bottom line price. Frankly I'm burned out about that question, so I dumped the old auction and now have listed it at no reserve meaning the top bidder owns it, real auction style. I'm looking to sell this truck, I'm not on a fishing expedition. I've sold dozens of FJ40's that are nice in the 35-45K range, this one is much nicer and more rare. I hope I'm not the only guy that feels that way, this is really not the typical restored 76-82 FJ40. I'm also a professional auto appraiser, but can't find any like vehicle to compare it with other than the previous 3 83 FJ40's I've owned, 1 sold 7 years ago for 125k, same condition as this red one, the other was more of a driver quality restoration built to a customer spec in the mid 50k range sold 2 months ago. The other 83 was a nice unrestored original that sold for 60k 3 years ago.On Aug-02-12 at 15:46:06 PDT, seller added the following information:Thank you eBayers for the questions and compliments. Yes, I plan to let the auction ride, it gets what it gets. I anticipate a flury of bids in the last 5 minutes, usually how it goes. I'll be in rural Montana buying some restorable FJ40's this weekend Aug 3/4 so I will have limited cell service but will check and respond to emails. Just got a email from a fellow in AZ that has an excellent shape original front floor mat he will sell, option for the buyer. On Aug-03-12 at 03:58:10 PDT, seller added the following information:I need to make an adjustment in my selling terms. I'll change my requirement on enclosed transport shipping. I strongly suggest enclosed as I don't want to see a rock chip etc. in this vehicle, but if you want it to go open carrier, I will help set it up, or work with your transport co. I've had a couple emails on this, so I respect the new owner's wishes.
