Over $22,000 has been spent over the past 15 years on engine, transmission and suspension to make this car what it is. It’s got a strong, relatively fresh engine rebuild that’s bored, balanced and ready to rev. The engine is fed by dual sidedraft Weber DCOE 45 carburetors that have been rebuilt and tuned within the last 6 months. Exhaust passes out through a new exhaust system (nothing special, but it’s fresh and clean). Power flows from the engine into an upgraded 5 speed 320i transmission and 3.91:1 rear limited slip differential from a 320is and then out to the ground through 15x7 mesh wheels from a BMW e34 and new Toyo Proxes tires. It’s not a showpiece, but the car is a head-turner with Polaris Silver paint, a Turbo Look kit and a low, aggressive stance. This car is ready to drive. Whether to work, the track or in the twisties on the weekend, it’s solid, fast and in very good working order. All of the systems: engine, drivetrain, electrical are fully functional, and most have been upgraded for greater performance. The interior looks and feels very clean with newly rebuilt Aardvarc Recaros from a 320i, refreshed door panels, a clean set of gauges as well as reconditioned/replaced knobs & levers. THE BAD It’s not in perfect concours condition. There are a couple dime-sized rust bubbles on the front edge of the hood and on the passenger side front fender. The blacked-out chrome is chipping in placesSunroof paint is pretty significantly scratched from openingThe back bumper was pushed into the body at some time in its past and there is minor damage on the right rear, and there is some rippling in the body near the left taillight Body panels are not perfectly straight and there is some variation in panel alignment The seats have aftermarket covers. The underlying seats and upholstery are in very good, if not excellent condition, but do not match. So I got seat covers. THE INDIFFERENT At some time in the 1980’s there was some replacement work done in the rear fender well area due to rust. It is 100% clean, however it’s not completely stock. It LOVES to rev and runs a little rough at idle due to the cam It has lived in the East for a good part of its life and is not a native California car.I'm not sure how many owners the car has had.
