Vehicle Detail

Offered here is a 1957 Packard Country Sedan. Packard was purchased by Studebaker in 1954 and this was Packard's last gasp before Studebaker ended the brand after the 1958 model year. As such this car is made up of mostly Studebaker parts with some extra chrome and trim to make a Packard. Most notable was the powerplant, this four door station wagon is powered by a supercharged V8 making 275 horsepower which ranks it as one of the most powerful automobiles offered by any of the manufacturers in 1957. This is a very rare car with only 869 produced and this particular example is made especially rare because it features a column shifted three speed manual transmsision with overdrive. We do not have actual production figures available for the manual transmission equipped Country Sedans but it is estimated that less than 10% off all cars produced were equipped as such. This means less than 80 were made and who knows how many remain. Recent comp sales of restored 1957 Packard Country Sedan station wagons range from $45,000 to $72,000 and those were all automatics. Top of the world for this car will be much higher and as such this represents and excellent investment opportunity for a market speculator. This 1957 Packard Country Sedan came from the collection of an elderly enthusiast who passed suddenly. The car was stored in a shipping container for many years located in the Southern California wine country area near Temecula. There was another 1957 Country Sedan stored with it, please see my other auctions for that car. This one is 100% complete including the McCullough VS57 Supercharger and all the supercharger only parts. The car has a roof rack and came from the factory in an unusual purple color as seen on the firewall. The floors and spare tire well appear to be exceptionally solid and rust free however there is some rot present in the rear lower quarters, most notably on the passenger side. Please see the detailed photos. There do not appear to be any dents in the car and all the trim is present, with the exception of the Packard letters across the hood. Hubcaps are also missing as is the rear deck lid handle. However, I have another complete and running 1957 Packard Country Sedan Supercharged Station Wagon which has all these parts. Please see my other auctions for more information on the second car. Mechanically the car appears to be an excellent survivor, or perhaps one which has had some overhaul work done. I power washed the whole car inside and out and disconnected the fuel line to the carb. I connected a battery and poured some gas down the carb and the car started off the key! Most of the dash lights worked but some were intermittent so I would guess some wiring work will be required. The car went in gear and moved under it's own power but the brake pedal went to the floor. Although this car is not far from being a driver, prospective buyers should purchase it assuming it will need a full restoration. If I were bidding the job at my shop I would quote $30-$35k for everything including paint and body, chrome plating, interior and mechanical. Still that leaves plenty of room for profit and the end of the day and this car should bring good money at auction due to its extreme rarity. In fact, I purchased this car along with the other 1957 Country Sedan with the intent of restoring both and bringing them to market myself. However, my work load with customer work has blown up so much that I will not be able to start on these cars for some time so I have decided to pass on the opportunity to another speculator. Please see my other auctions for another 1957 Packard Country Sedan supercharged station wagon. I will not accept PayPal on this deal, payment in the form of wire transfer, certified funds or cash in person only. I will sell worldwide but all shipping costs are to be paid in full by the winning bidder. International bidders I will deliver to the freight forwarder of your choice here in the Los Angeles area for a $100 flat fee. I purchased this car on a bill of sale and I recently applied for title, it is in transit and will be available soon. I reserve the right to end this auction early and for any reason. Please ask all questions before you bid as I will not accept any returns on this item. Feel free to message me through ebay or call me directly on my cell at 213-435-6912. Thanks and good luck bidding!
