Vehicle Detail
1983 Porsche 944 2.5 Liter 4 cylinder, Automatic, AC, Removable hard top The fastest production 4 cylinder built in 1983 (which is not really saying much) Reliable car, used only occasionally. Mechanically strong, cosmetically needy. I have focused on keeping this car mechanically sound. The cosmetic part was supposed to be a father/son project that never took hold. (The kid has a fondness for Subes) I will list everything I can think of that is wrong with this car. I have sold several cars on ebay and found that all of the buyers appreciated that the cars were as described. Overall this car is solid and can be driven as is (drove it 60 miles today) but I would really like to see someone buy it to restore it. Mechanical Does not leak oil or smoke. Starts right up and runs smooth. Engine stays in operating temperature range in summer traffic. Automatic trans shifts smooth. There is a slight harmonic buzz from the shifter at certain freeway speeds. Replaced rear shocks, timing belt and oil seals. All fluids have been replaced recently. Comes with about 1K in new uninstalled parts - front struts, rotors and brake pads. I might have a few other spare parts that I will include along with a repair manual. Exterior Body is straight. All the seams between the panels are even. I love the lines on this car especially the view of the rear fenders seen through the side view mirrors. No bondo that I can locate. Dent in the left rear fender. I pushed most of it out by hand. Needs paint. Faded with some edge chips. Though I wet sanded one fender and it looks pretty good. Crack in lower passenger windshield. The seals around the removable hard top need replacement. Wind noise starts at around 50 MPH. If it rains hard the seals around the rear hatch will leak a little so I permanently removed the drain plugs. No rust anywhere on the car. Needs tires soon. Drivers door is a little sticky (latch adjustment?). Passenger door hinge broken (the hinge that keeps the door from swinging out too far) Rubber and trim in good shape including the mini whale tail on the rear hatch. Interior Seats have splits on bottom cushions and are covered. Rear head rest is removed but I have it. My intention was to remove the rear seat and carpet the back. Dash is cracked and covered. Sun visors and rear view mirror are removed but I have them. The joints that hold the visors need to be replaced. Rear view mirror just popped off when I washed a hot window with a cold hose. The power window switch will pop out if you close the door hard. The interior hardware for the hard top is sketchy but the top stays on. Carpet, door panels, rear area, headliner, and other interior components all in good shape. Electrical Odometer is broken. I estimate a maximum of 5k miles have been put on this car in the 2 years I have owned it. New owner should repair this immediately to keep the title accurate. The radio is decent but the speakers are shot. Really only suitable for AM talk radio. The parking brake light just decided to stay on today even when the brake isn’t engaged. All other gauges, lights, wipers, AC, heater, power windows, etc in good working order. Clear title and registered until 6/2013.Buyer responsible for smog check. This is a fun classic to drive. It is well balanced with the transmission in the rear and corners better than my 911. Automatics with AC are getting hard to find. Happy to answer any questions or arrange a test drive. Happy bidding.
