Vehicle Detail

If you are looking for a perfect numbers matching, every correct factory sticker and as it left the factory Challenger, don't look at this one. Other than a very original and straight body/chassis, this thing is much different than it left the factory. Where do I start? Lets see, its a driver after a big restoration completed around 2004. I bought it in 2000 from a used car dealer who had also actually sold the car new in 1970, when he was the new Dodge dealer in Seneca, SC. When I got it is was a pretty original rust free southern car, but had a 318 and a terrible cream exterior, green vinyl top and green interior. The truck pan had been replaced, but all the other panels appeared original and straight, and I see no evidence of damage ever. The undercarriage still has the original undercoating and I left it in place though the rest of the car was chemical stripped and repainted. The other sheet metal not original is the Year One hood I put on, for the cool hood scoops and added clearance, and the little front and rear valances. The engine is now a Mopar crate high compression 360, I believe .020 over. I recall 10:1 being the compression, but my memory fades at this age : ) It might be 9 to 1, but I think 10 to 1 is correct. It had new Edelbrock aluminum heads installed, with a stronger cam and roller rockers and aluminum intake. It has a Pertronics electronic ignition, new 750 carb. Ceramic headers, high torque starter. Even with that starter and big battery, sometimes it cranks a little slow when hot. It was 110 degrees Saturday and I drove it 20 miles and after the starter was really warm it cranked slow, but started. The engine itself actually runs super cool with the big aluminum radiator. I estimate the engine has less than 2000 miles. More good stuff: Rather than drum brakes all around, it is now manual 4 wheel disks. In front the entire crappy torsion bar front suspension was swapped out with an "AlterKtion" front end: Double wishbones, adjustable coil overs, manual rack and pinion, vented disk brakes. This was a $3000 package. Maybe more now. In back it has a 4.10 Posi 8.75" Chrysler with disk brakes and composite leaf springs from the same OEM manufacturer that made the Ford Lightning springs. I think they weight 8 lbs if, again memory serves. Very stiff and light. Aluminum drive shaft too. Between the radiator, intake exhaust, front and rear suspension, K member, heads, brakes and drive shaft, this thing has shed a lot of weight- several hundred pounds. I think the engine would dyno in the 400's, and with the light weight and 4.10 rear end, you can imagine how quick it is. Really too quick. Scary quick. Tranny is a rebuilt 727 slap stick with full manual conversion. No automatic function with the new valve body. The seats are late model GTO seats with Dodge emblems. Awesome seats out of a low mileage rollover. Pictures show the tilt Ididit column + ignition switch and all new gauges. Brand new battery in truck. Full stainless exhaust. New gas tank. No AC, no PS, no PB. All new tires...fronts probably one size too big and grab the front fenders at full lock going backwards. No big deal though. A car this expensive being sold online needs full disclosure. Heres my best stab: Wipers work but don't like to return to the park position for some reason on their own. Heater fan is not working, not sure why. Never cared in SC though. Heat not a problem here! Radio brand new, but not wired. Glove box latch sticks badly, should be replaced. May or may not have visors when it sells (doesn't currently). Since the paint is now around 8-9 years old, it isn't perfect. Has scratches and blemishes. Was a 5,000 paint job when new though. Very nice Ford color (Sonic blue maybe...?) Paint color is very metameric, meaning it looks blue in most light, but can get a purplish shade in certain lighting conditions. Thought the body is very solid, a little rust bubble is showing at the bottom, as disclosed in pictures. But you will see the floorpans are original and unmolested except that trunk pan. I don't think you see many 42 year old cars this solid. Would be a great candidate for a high end restoration, or just keep enjoying it like I have. It is nice enough to take to most any show, but it is not a trailer queen by any means. Car is set up to handle as well as go like stink. However, the 4.10 gears make it loud, thirsty and no fun at all over 60 mph. If you buy it and decide to drive it home, I hope you live close, because those gears will wear you out. Other stuff you should know: Comes with many spares- lots of stainless trim, pretty complete set of side glass. Original gauges. Various knick knacks, extra taillights. etc. I haven't bothered to program the electronic speedometer, so it reads a little high with these gears. Easy to program, I'm told. I'm not sure what I left out. I have tried to be as honest and open about everything, but I am sure I forgot something. This is a good, solid, fast can.It looks perfect from 12 feet, and pretty nice from 3 feet. If you are a perfectionist, you will be horribly disappointed- please don't bid. I am retired and middle aged, but still have a daughter to put through school. I guess it is time for this car to go. I hope whoever wins it enjoys it, and the attention it will surely get. Car is in Anderson, SC, not far off I-85. I will take serious people for a ride around the neighborhood if they wish, but don't intend to do a lot of joy rides for everyone who always wanted to ride in a 1970 Challenger..... Take a good look at the detailed pictures and see if it is the car for you. And check out my 12 year history on ebay with 100% satisfaction, on some pretty big ticket items. I want to maintain that integrity. I also have a reasonable reserve- I intend to sell the car. I wil be in Denver from Sunday afternoon July 8 till Wednesday afternoon, the 11th looking at a business opportunity, so I will not be available during those days for inspections.
