Vehicle Detail
You are veiwing a vehicle of FIAT and Bertone history, the FIAT X1/9. This car was designed in 1973 by Bertone, one of the oldest and most prestigious Italian firms in the car sector to this day. FIAT and Bertone partnered up to create a sports car prototype. They used the engine, transaxle, and front suspension from FIAT's 128 front wheel drive car. They put that powertrain behind the seats of a small two seater sports car. This car was given the prototype code X1/9. This car was the only car from FIAT to be put into production using the prototype codename instead of a number like 127, 128, etc. When this car was produced journalists called the X1/9 the "Baby Ferrari", and were also comparing it to the Lotus Elan. This car was manufactured by FIAT from 1974 to 1982 producing 140,519, when production and sales numbers were to low for FIAT, they handed the manufacturing over to Bertone who manufactured them from 1982 to 1989 producing an estimated 10,000. In 1979 FIAT produced 22,901 X1/9's world wide. This car has the 1.5L four cylinder engine and a five speed manual transmission, which was changed in 1979 from the 1.3L four cylinder and a four speed manual transmission. The ignition was also changed in 1979 to an electronic Bosch ignition. It has four wheel disc brakes and rack and pinion steering, but both are not power which was standard from FIAT. With its mid-mounted transverse engine and transmission, and its rear wheel drive, the X1/9 was noted for its excellent handling. The car features a four wheel independent suspension with MacPherson struts, and front and rear anti-roll bars, that makes this handle as good as any other sports cars of its day. The car has some very desirable standard options including a removable roof, the roof can be stored in the front storage compartment and it designed to fit without loosing much cargo space. Along with the front storage it also has a rear storage much like a trunk but smaller. It has an aftermarket Pioneer radio and speakers for better quality sound when cruising with the roof off. The interior of the car is in very good condition. All the buttons, guages, and interior lights work as they should. The drivers seat does show some where on the seat back and minor wear on the seat bottom. The door panels, headliner, sun visors, and dash are in great condition. The original VIN, emissions, and the tire tags in the door jams and under the hood, are still like new, and it also still has the original Owners Manual and Warranty/Service books. The exterior of the car is painted FIAT's Metallic Orange, paint code 190. The paint is very nice condition and has a great shine. there is a small spot of rust starting on the bottom of the front left fender. The removable roof is like new, along with all the badges on the car. It has Pirelli P4 tires on the original wheels with the original beauty rings and center caps. It has hide-away headlights that work they are supposed to. It does have some minor dents and scratches but over all it is an extremely nice car! It is to be believed that it has 84,481 actual miles, but it does have a Minnesota mileage exempt title. We have noticed that the fuel gauge is not 100% accurate, and the A/C does not blow cold right now, we will try to charge it with r134 but we are unsure how long it will work or if it will work.
