Vehicle Detail
This auction is for my 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400. The car has its matching numbers engine, exhaust manifolds and 4-speed transmission, but the rear is not original to the car. According to the 2-letter code, it’s a 2.56 rear from a 1968. The car is carousel red with a white vinyl top and parchment interior. It is a low-optioned car with no power accessories, but it does have the 400 package, console, factory hood tach, and 14” Rally II wheels with very good tires. All of this info is on the PHS documents, and I also have a mostly readable broadcast sheet. It has a newer Edelbrock 4-bbl carb on it that needs to be tuned – the engine runs great, but it burns a little rich. It has the original AM radio that has been converted to AM/FM, but you could never tell by looking at the face. I bought the Firebird from the original owner, who had sold it once to someone locally and bought it back after a few years. It was the first purchase he and his wife made after their wedding. The car has resided in Virginia since transported here to Town & Country Motors in Harrisonburg back in the day. Due to illnesses, he had to sell things he didn’t need anymore, so I bought it from him in December 2011. The quarter panels and floors have been replaced during a light restoration in the early 1990’s. It’s a very solid car and presents itself well. It also gets super fuel mileage on the highway with the taller rear gear. Issues: 1. As seen in the pictures, there is some damage at the tunnel area of the floorboard. Perhaps, the drive shaft came loose at some point. It put a few cuts in the floor and dented it up in that one area, but other than that, it’s solid. Seam sealer was put in these cuts to prevent rust and water from entering. I’ve never cared too much since the car is kept in a garage and is only driven during nice weather. 2. Whoever installed the vinyl top measured wrong and there is a little gap between the vinyl and the chrome trim. See this in the pictures as well. 3. Reverse lights are not working. 4. Horn does not work. 5. Windshield wipers work sometimes. 6. The car leaks oil – appears to be the rear main seal. It’s not severe, but it does leak. 7. There is bondo in the tail panel. This car is an excellent car for Friday/Saturday night cruise-ins or local car shows. When I bought the car in its current condition, it came with over 15 trophies/plaques from local car shows. I no longer have them. It’s also mechanically sound enough to drive it across the country. The issues listed do not hinder the performance of the car whatsoever, but if you live in a state that requires state inspections on older vehicles, the reverse light issue needs to be fixed. Buyer is to pay for all shipping/handling charges. Car will stay in my possession until all payments for it are clear. I reserve the right to end the auction, as I may decide to advertise the car locally as well. Thanks for looking, and if you have questions or want more pictures, please get in touch.
