We are certainly not experts on this rare vehicle and would encourage you to do your own research, including sites like www.1000SEL.com that state: So what is a 1000SEL? The 1000SEL wasn't a Mercedes-Benz you could order at your regular Mercedes dealership. The 1000SELs weren't even made by Mercedes-Benz: the cars were aftermarket conversions of mainly the Mercedes 500SEL and 560SEL (W126) S-class. The cars started out as factory-fresh S-classes and were modified mostly in Germany and the UK, by tuning and coachbuilding companies like Chameleon, Kugok, Robert Jankel Design, Styling-Garage, Trasco and Vantagefield. Variations on the 1000SEL-theme were even given names like 1001SEL (Gemballa), 1000SGS (Styling-Garage), 5000GFG (GFG), 5000SEL (Gemballa) and 10000SEL (ABC Exclusive). Modified Mercedes-Benz SEC coupes were also given similar names but in stead of 1000SEL it was a 1000SEC. History: Where this vehicles history begins is hard to say. It appears to be a European Model, VIN: WDB1260441A101879 (eBay is not able to identify European VIN) that was Federalized in the State of California on January 7, 1994. It eventually found its way to Las Vegas, where it was impounded by a local tow company at the request of a Bank during a Foreclosure Sale of a Luxury Home. The tow company now holds a clear and lien free Nevada Title, and has asked us to list the vehicle on their behalf. Exterior The paintwork remains in high gloss condition. Though it is not without its flaws, there are some scratches on the driver door and sunroof (see pics) and several chips along the lower front apron. The body appears to be rust free and overall in very straight condition with good panel gaps. Interior The Leather has held up well for its age with some wear in the driver’s seat bolster, center arm rest, and passenger seat bottom. The dash has had some of the leather replaced, noticeable by a color difference, however the headliner, door panels, and rear seats are all in amazing condition for being 28 years old. The Tachometer has a tendency to stick, the oil pressure gauge will often bounce, and the odometer no longer turns, but the remaining gauges all appear to function correctly. The radio works well, though the antenna is missing, and the window switches are a bit temperamental but appear to have improved with some recent use. Mechanical This vehicle was in storage for some time. After obtaining a clear title, the tow company had the vehicle serviced at a local garage. It received new spark plugs, an oil service, a new fuel pump and filter, and a fuel injector flush, and a new muffler. The vehicle was then permitted and driven several hundred trouble free miles around town. The vehicle returned for an inspection where some additional items were noted for future maintenance, including small leaks (drips not puddles) in the transmission cooler lines and lower engine oil pan, and worn drive belts.
