Vehicle Detail

Doesn't this look like fun just sitting still? It is! Before reading on, check my feedback rating. It is very good because I lay out everything before selling something, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Keep that in mind as you read the lengthy description below and feel free to email me with questions. This 1949 Willys came from West Texas and as therefore has very little rust. The little tool box under the passenger seat is rusted but the rest of the vehicle is straight and sound even in the places that traditionally rust on these jeeps. This jeep is particularly interesting because in 1949 only 2182 were made whereas in '46, '47 and '48 they made 60,000 or more. I have heard that '49 CJ2As are rare and the production figures seem to bear that out. Run a web search on CJ2A production figures and see. This could be a rare collectible for full restoration and besides, there is a lot of jeep to start with here. The engine runs great, no smoke and 30+ pounds oil pressure even when fully warmed up. All gear ranges high, low, 2WD and 4WD work great with no whines. Clutch is solid with no slip. Runs at considerably less than 160 degrees which is saying a lot here in Texas. It has been converted to 12 volts and starts right up. It has a NEW alternator, NEW battery, NEW electric fuel pump (existing fuel pump still there, you can go back to it if you want, electric just makes for easier starts), NEW Solex carburetor, NEW radiator cap on a professionally-reconditioned original Willy radiator which does not leak. It has a NEW (not rebuilt) water pump too as well as NEW upper and lower hoses. It has NEW plugs, condenser, distributor cap, ignition coil and plug wires. It has a NEW brake master cylinder and four NEW slave cylinders. I only have the front brakes connected at this time as I lack the hub puller tool to remove one of the back drums. The other one came off with a regular puller and that cylinder has been replaced. The new cylinder for the other rear is still in the box. Sorry, I just don't have the puller. The front brakes have NEW brake lines and NEW cylinders and are connected so the jeep still stops OK even without the back brakes connected. All three of the brake line rubber hoses are also new. As you can see in the pictures, it has a complete NEW set of gauges including Temperature, Oil Pressure, Amps and Fuel. It has a NEW speedometer and cable. The new speedometer has 22 miles on it which obviously is not the actual mileage of the jeep. I have no idea of the actual miles as the original speedometer was faded and unreadable. All of the gauges work but the gas gauge is not connected because the gas tank (which was replaced with after-market poly tank) has no sending unit. Easy installation on a poly tank. This man-mobile has four 15 inch off road tires which for the most part have been pretty beat up off-roading but they run and hold air just fine. They have ample tread left, in fact one is in almost new condition. If you want some original tires, I have three (sorry not four) 16 inch original Willys wheels that I plan on selling in another auction. Or make an offer. Headlights are new and have been rewired and work, are fused, and new switch. Tail lights are new but not connected up yet. The exhaust pipe ends right behind the muffler so you will want to add that piece if you want to put this jeep on the road. If you run antique tags or use the jeep on a ranch or deer lease no worries. The jeep has a good stout tow bar on the front, hook up and go. Paint is NEW, not showroom caliber of course but a decent jeep paint job and easy to touch up if it gets scratched. Seat frames are in good shape if you want to go original on the seats or go with the more cushy ones installed. They easily remove either way. The jeep was sold to me on a bill of sale before the first phase of restoration. I recently paid the bond fee and applied for a replacement title. The jeep cleared the title hurdles and I should have the title and antique plates in the next 10 days or so. If you want the jeep right now I'm happy to sell on a bill of sale like I bought it, pending receipt of the clear title. Either way you save the $200 cost of the bonded title as I already paid it. That's it: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. You are less than $1000 from making this a road-worthy vehicle and most of that cost would be tires and a tail pipe. Alternatively, title it as an antique for occasional on-road enjoyment and constant off-road joy! Remember also that these jeeps are small and ship anywhere in the USA for short money. I will assist your shipper and this little beast will climb right aboard the carrier just in time for summer.
