Vehicle Detail
This is my fourth B, being familiar with the vehicles evolution I wanted a B that had the superior handling and classic looks of the earlier chrome bumper models but had the technological advances of the later models such as the stronger 5 main bearing engine, power assisted disc brakes, alternator, etc. as well as a few improvements of my own such as improved wiring with updated fuse and relay center and higher quality rims and tires for starts. The project began with a 1975 B in need of some T.L.C. - installing an early model front cross member and special new front coil and rear leaf srings to lower the vehicle to its original design height to restore proper handling. The vehicle was then completely stripped down to its shell and the overhaul began. With the exception of the radiator and tonneau practically everything on this vehicle is either new or rebuilt. New front fenders and fender liners, rocker panels and floor pans were installed. The transmission was rebuilt with new bearings, seals, and syncro's. New drive shaft "U" joints and 3 pc clutch were installed. The engine was completely rebuilt with new pistons, rings, bearings, seals, high output oil pump, timing chain and a performance street cam installed with new lifters. The head was ported and polished with new valves, springs, guides, seals, rocker arms and shaft. Twin rebuilt HS-4 S.U. carbs were installed as well as a new water pump. External oil cooler, electronic solid state ignition in a new destributor and an electric cooling fan was added. A complete manifold to tail pipe SS performance exhaust system was installed. The rear end had new wheel bearings, seals, and pinion gear thrust washers replaced. All fuel, hydraulic and brake lines were replaced with SS lines. New rear brake drums, shoes, wheel cylinders and hardware were installed as well as new emergency brake cables. The front disc brake rotors and pads were replaced and the calipers were rebuilt with new SS pistons. New front wheel bearings, seals king pins, trunions, sway bar links, rebound straps and rubbers as well as all suspension bushings were installed. New interior door and side panels, carpeting, dash board, leather bucket seats, steering wheel, shift boot and center console was installed. New and rebuilt gauges were used, all new door hardware and keyed alike ignition, door, trunk, etc. looks installed. The crank up door glass, vent windows and windshield were all replaced, as was all glass channels and vehicle weatherstripping. All vehicle chrome was replaced including front grill, front and rear bumpers, side mirrors, ss license plate lamp assembly. All light fictures, housings, lenses and bulbs were replaced. A premium canvas (not vinyl) top was installed and 4 new chrome/SS 72 spoke Dayton 15" wire wheels with Michelin 215/60R15 primacy MXX4 tires were mounted. The vehicle comes with both new and rebuilt alternators and starters. The vehilce was professionally painted at a local shop. The doors can look a little lighter in certain lighting and there are a few minor specs (see photo) all in all it's quite a nice paint job and touch-up paint is included. While this is not a complete list it gives an idea of the extent of this rebuild. A jack and emergency road tools and supplies, spare tune-up and maintenance items as well as many new and original extra parts go with the vehicle, shop manuals, parts catalog, receipts are included. The front bumper has a small scratch from installing the engine but the vehicle comes with a new spare bumper. While the odometer reads 400+ miles, the actual mileage is about 200+ (mostly carb tuning and testing) as the rebuilt spedo head came back with 200+ miles already on it. I have over $20,000 and more than four years of my spare time in this vehicle and have achieved my goal. Unfortunately financial issues are forcing me to sell. This vehicle incorporates the best features of all the B models, a sharp looking car that's a blast to drive. Maine does not issue titles for vehicles manufactured before 1995 . I have however obtained from Maine DMV a"letter of verification" which they say is used to establish vehicle ownership in pre 1995 for out of state registrations. This auction has no reserve and some luckey person will end up with one fine classic head turner.
