Vehicle Detail
You are looking at my 1964 Flxible Buick ambulance/hearse combination. This was the final year that Flxible built professional car based ambulances and hearses. These cars were built in very low numbers, possibly fewer than two hundred were built in the final year and you can imagine, based on their useage, very few have survived. Although this car is technically speaking, a combination ambulance/hearse, it is equipped and displayed as an ambulance. When used as a hearse, they inserted what is called a "skeleton rack" to hold a casket, I do not have the skeleton rack, so please be aware. Flxible offered one of the best built professional cars that I have ever owned. Take special note of the nicely finished interior! This ambulance is nicely equipped with Automatic Transmission, V/8 Engine, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Front and Rear Heat and Air Conditioning, Cornering Lights, Emergency Warning Lights, Siren/Light, Oxygen Tank and Stretcher. It has goldleaf painted signage that can be removed, if not desired. It also has the ambulance-style rear-quarter window decals, that are a replica of what would have been put on by Flxible, when the car was originally built. This ambulance looks great outside, inside, under the hood and underneath. The interior is just about as nice as any vintage ambulance interior that I have seen. The body is straight and solid and the non-original paint shines, but it has flaws and imperfections. The chrome shows nicely. The glass is all good, except for a crack on the rear-quarter window on the driver's side. The radial tires are several years old, with about 8,000 miles on them. The engine runs strong, the transmission shifts perfectly, the steering and brakes are very responsive, the front-end is tight, with no shimmies, shakes, or pulling at all. The air conditioning seems to work properly, meaning it feels cold. The lights and siren work as they should. I have owned many professional cars over the years and I must say that this is a very nice car to drive and to ride in. Over the past six, or seven years, there was lots of work done to this ambulance by it's previous owner, so it performs well. To prove that point, after the work was completed, the previous owner put nearly eight thousand miles on it, going to shows and events! I find that quite impressive, don't you? I must say that as nice as this car is, it is not without a few flaws. To start with, the paint has numerous imperfections, but the camera really doesn't show them. From ten feet away, the car looks really nice! As you get close, there are a few scratches, finite areas of orange peel, especially on the rear loading door. There is a few areas with bubbles, mainly on the rear loading door. The rear-quarter window on the driver's side, has a crack in it, but in my opinion, it may not be a problem. There is a slight rubbing sound, especially when you first drive the car cold, it seems to disappear as you drive, it could be a wheel bearing, or? The gas guage is not accurate, at a quarter of a tank, you are out of gas. The two way radio is for decorative purposes, it is not functioning. If you are looking for a ready to go car for local shows, cruise nights and parades, this is a great car and you truly don't need to look any further! You will get lots of attention and have a great time owning and showing this rare beauty! These ambulances have great club support in the Professional Car Society, the Emergency Vehicle Owners Association and at organizations for fire apparatus. Interest in these vintage car-style ambulances has really grown in the past twenty years. These cars seem to be welcomed everywhere they go! I have tried my best to describe this car accurately, but your opinion may be different than mine. I encourage you to come and inspect the car, take it for a drive and ask any questions you have, before you bid. Please read the description fully and look at all of the pictures. Please be aware that you are buying a forty eight year old ambulance, if you are looking for a new, or perfect car, please look elsewhere. If I left out something, please ask and I will respond as quickly as possible. I am a passionate hobbyist and I have owned many collector cars over the years. Currently, I have a chance to buy one of my "dream cars" and as a result, this one has to go. This car will be sold AS-IS Where-Is, with NO Warranties expressed, or implied. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time, should the car be sold. A nonrefundable PayPal deposit of $1,000 is due at the conclusion of the auction, full payment with seven days. Thank you for reading my ramblings and for looking at my ambulance. Please read my feedback and bid with confidence. Bid early and bid often and have fun!
