Vehicle Detail

I have owned this F-150 for about 7 years. It is not pretty, but the I-6 engine runs great with no burning, smoking, or leaking oil. If you look at the pictures, you will see that this truck is not pretty. Although I drive it daily (about 60 miles), it does have some mechanical issues. 1. The 4x4 works fine, but the linkage is broken so you have to engage it by crawling underneath and manually shifting the transfer case into 4 wheel drive mode (the automatic hubs work great). 2. It has a broken coil spring on the right hand side. This occurred about 2 months ago when I hit a pot hole (also blew out a shock absorber). A new set of springs were priced at $109 if you can DIY. 3. It needs ball joints. It drives nice and smooth, but at times, if you hit bumps just right, it starts to vibrate a shimmy so badly that you have to slow down and almost stop. 4. The automatic transmission with overdrive shifts fine, although it does "bang" into 2nd gear sometimes. No slipping or hesitation at all though. 5. The Brake and ABS light recently came on. However, the brakes work fine (maybe the anti-lock is not working? I don't know, but the brakes really work great.) Those are the main mechanical issues that I know of. But like I said, it's still my daily driver. I would say a new coil spring and ball joints would buy you a lot of time with this truck. You'll also notice one odd rim. That's the spare, but I have the matching rim and center-cap (with a flat tire). Also, both fuel tanks work fine but the gas gauge for the front tank does not work - so you can still fill both tanks (if you can afford it) but you just won't know how much is in the front tank. It has a new muffler and tail pipe and recently passed NJ inspection - good until the middle of 2013. Ironically, this truck has ice-cold air and has never needed service since I've owned it. Great project or parts truck. Good luck!
