Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1991 Mercedes Benz 300SL Convertible. (The car has SL600 badges installed by the previous owner, but it is actually a 300SL. I do have a new 300SL emblem that goes with the car.) This is an easy project car to have ready for the summer. This car was on the road as recently as last May. I had bought this vehicle to restore, but a recent health issue has made that impossible. It has a recently rebuilt transmission (2010) with only 8000 miles on it. Four of the converitble top hydraulic cylinders have been rebuilt, and the top works great. Top was new when I bought the car and is in great shape. Lots of other new parts, including rims and tires from a newer E series, new wood for the center console, new multi-function lever, new steering stabilizer, and several new interior parts. Also has a new alternator to be installed. The vehicle was running in May when the alternator failed. While attempting to install the alternator, the belt tensioner broke (OK, I broke it....). It is a relatively cheap fix, but it was shortly after this surgery put me out of the restoration business. It also developed a leak at the transmission pan, and looked liked I needed to retighten the bolts on the pan. It has been sitting since. This vehicle is absolutely road-worthy, although you will not be able to drive it home in its current state. This car passed full New Jersey inspection before I took it off the road. When I bought the car it read 109,000 miles. It still shows less than 130,000 on the odometer. However, after I bought the car, I found out the odometer had been replaced. Although the mileage appears to be correct when I check car fax, I am going to sell this as a 'true mileage unknown' car. See the pictures for more vehicle details. Realize that this car is 21 years old, and has wear to show it. It ran good for me for the years I owned it, and I truly believe that with very little work this will be on the road for summer. This is a complete car, and would make a great restoration project, or a great investment as a parts car or to part it out and sell it. I also have the matching hardtop and stand, which can be purchsed by the auction winner for an additional $200.00. You can not drive it home. It is currently not running. I have described this car to the best of my ability. Look at my feedback and bid with confidence. Buyer is responsible for shipping, seller is not capable of assisting in loading the car. There is no battery in the car, so a flat bed or tow truck is required. Car is currently in my garage, but I will roll it out onto the driveway for the pickup. Paypal required for the deposit, and Cash required for balance of sale. No checks, cashier checks, wire transfers, payment programs, bartering, trades, etc. I do have the title in hand. Thanks for looking, and Good Luck!On Mar-06-12 at 03:51:52 PST, seller added the following information: I have received quite a bit of interest, and wanted to include some additional information that has been requested in email...- I was replacing the alternator because It was diagnosed to have a bad voltage regulator, which is attached to the alternator. - the paint is not perfect, and has some chips and blemishes. The front air dam is cracked in a couple of places, and should be repaired or replaced ( they are available aftermarket). It is a good 20 footer. - the interior lights do not come on when you open the drivers door. According to the message boards, it is a bad relay located behind the passenger air bag. Available both new and on EBay. I already bought one, and if I can find it, it's yours. if not, they run about $40.00. -the power door locks are intermittent. Again, a common issue on these cars. They sell a kit to change from infrared to wireless in aftermarket. Of course, you could just do like I did, and if the locks don't work, just use the key. :) Obviously, none of these issues affect the road worthiness of the car, more cosmetic issues. And finally, to be clear, I continue to get folks asking me if they can drive it home. If it is a very windy day, and you live directly downhill fom my house, and someone gives you a really strong push, then maybe you can coast home..... Aside from that, the car DOES NOT run in its current state. It needs a battery, belt tensioner, the alternator installed, and the transmission leak repaired. I can not allow you to keep the car in my driveway and do the work there as some have suggested. Thanks, and good luck.
