1986 Mitsubishi Mighty Max turbo-diesel. I've owned and enjoyed this truck for probably about 5 years. Its time for me to get a bigger truck that the family can fit in too. I used it for Home Depot runs, dump runs and picking up wood pellets, and just commuting to work once in a while, and it has been absolutely great. I can get over 35 mpg when just, cruising back and forth to work, and this truck really has great power for a small diesel. Most of the '80s diesel trucks were real dogs, but not this one, it will keep up with traffic easily. At the time when it was sold, I read that it was the quickest accelerating pickup in the US, gas or diesel, small or large. It is also very heavy duty for a small pickup, and can hold a lot of weight. I think the payload is factory rated at 1700 lbs, and I have had a full 1 ton pallet of pellets in the back and still not put the suspension on the bump stops. It has a plug in block heater for winter that works well. The tires are all matching and relatively new, all of the brakes have been replaced fairly recently including new calipers, rotors, hoses, wheel cylinders etc. A complete timing belt job was done 1 year ago. The transmission was rebuilt 3 years ago with all new bearings and synchros, and new clutch. New master and slave cylinders too. I also have some new parts that will come with the truck including shocks, filters, etc. That was the good, now the bad: Truck body has rust, the worst of it is in the rockers, and the lower bed sides and tail gate. There is some in the floor, but they are solid for the most part, no holes under your feet or anything like that. The frame, suspension, steering, etc. is 100% solid, it is a safe to drive vehicle. The engine has recently begun smoking at idle from the exhaust when warmed up, its kind of a whitish smoke, so I suspect it could be burning some coolant or oil, maybe a turbo problem. I don't know and don't have any time to put into a problem like this anymore. It still runs great, but the buyer should expect to have to deal with this at some point. The interior needs some work, the driver's inner door handle is broken, the door panels are water damaged and the seats have covers on them. Overall, its probably not a vehicle to pick up your date in.
