Vehicle Detail

1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 I own a vintage 4x4 restoration shop specializing in the FJ40 cruiser. I built this cruiser as a one of a kind, show and go. This restoration was just completed, only test and tune miles on it. This is the 5th FJ40 I built like this, as the previous 4 had excellent results. I went much farther on this restoration, it is spectacular. I offer a few choice FJ40’s for sale each year, this is one of my favorite builds. This truck is built right, turn-key, and ready for the new owner. I chose a 1974 model year as it is emissions exempt, last time I checked all pre-75 vehicles are exempt, but check your state to be sure. I’ve done this airbrush Camo paint job 5 times, on previous cruisers I’ve won people’s choice and best paint job awards at car shows. The other 4 similar vehicles are spread over Canada, so I doubt you will see another one. There is so much into this cruiser, I’ll explain it the best I can, but please ask questions. Click or Copy and Paste this Photobucket link for pictures of this restoration. There are a couple pics of this FJ next to a stock unit for comparison. http://s953.photobucket.com/albums/ae11/fj40man79/1974%20Camo%20FJ40/ MECHANICAL I converted this FJ40 to a small block Chevy 327 built to 300 horse power, with an electronic ignition, hedders, dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. I did the Saginaw power steering conversion, with the correct ratio box, no jerky turns, it is real smooth. The transmission is a GM Turbo 350 automatic with a mild shift kit, slap shifter installed, new tranny cooler. The transfer case is FJ40, custom pro-built drivelines, this conversion is very expensive and time consuming, but makes this rig a lot of fun to drive. The axles are stock FJ40 with 4.10 gears, new Warn Hubs, there are 4 wheel power disc brakes, with a proportioning valve. Shocks are skyjacker with 9 way adjustments. The spring over axle conversion was done correctly with the proper drag-link angles. I popped the extra money for Johnny Heim joints, they work perfectly. Aluminum radiator, Optima red top battery, aftermarket gauges. Tires are 37/12.5/15 Super Swamper Radials (radials are expensive but a must over bias for smooth highway operation) on aluminum wheels. BODY This FJ40 is completely rust free, no bondo hiding anywhere. This truck was disassembled and each component painted with a base coat black. The Camo paint is PPG 3 colors, done by airbrush and my artist painter. There are 6 coats of clear to make sure you can drive through the bushes, and the paint will not fade for many years. The paint and clear is also wet sanded for a spectacular shine. This paint looks 3D in person, the pictures do it no justice, and you really have to see it in person to appreciate the depth and detail. The Camo paint is done with all the parts assembled to keep the flow of the Camo through the panels. I’ve won awards at every car show I’ve shown this paint job, I only do it on FJ40’s I sell. The top and headlight bezel are painted bright white. The interior tub is black linex which is perfect for sound deadening and heat protection. The 6 point roll cage and step bars are DOM 1 ¾ tube TIG welded ($6.00 a foot) for safety. The step bars are also rock sliders to protect the tub, I also added grip tape so you won’t slip when getting in or out. The front fenders are aftermarket aluminum and wider than stock to keep the tires tucked for legality, also the fender flares on the rear keep it legal. There are mud-flap mounts, I will add flaps if you want them. I just don’t like how they look. The front seats are stock 74 FJ with camo covers integrated to the seat. The rear bench seat is a new tuck and tumble Smittybuilt. The rear lights are LED; I installed post 75 front lights on this FJ as they look much better. All new door and hard top seals. The undercoating is POR-15 (best stuff available, and a must for east coast drivers) I engineered this truck to be a reliable driver and a show stopper. It takes more money and time to build a truck like this vs. the mint original FJ’s worth the big bucks. I hope someone can appreciate the quality and craftsmanship it takes to build a rig like this. If someone brought me a FJ to build to this spec, the shop bill would be 45-50k on top of the core vehicle. You see the ICON for sale at 125-150K, this one is pretty dang cool and nice for a realistic price. I’ve put about 100 miles on this truck; it gets more attention than my 700HP Chevelle. I have a clean clear WA title in my name for this truck. I welcome 3rd party inspections during the auction. I own Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections so skip me when looking in the phone book. I have a shipping broker whom I’ve used 60 times within the USA without incident, or I’m willing to use yours. I will deliver within 300 miles of Benton City WA at $1.75 a loaded mile. I will take to the US side of the Canadian border, but not into Canada. Importing this rig is fairly easy to Canada. I require a $1500 non-refundable deposit via PayPal immediately after auction is over. The remainder cashier’s check or bank to bank wire within 7 days closed auction. The vehicle does not leave my property until paid in full. I’m storing this FJ in my alarm secured personal garage until it is loaded on a truck to the new owner. I’ll answer some FAQ’s I get every cruiser auction. Do you have any other FJ’s for sale? I will have a 1 owner 100% rust free Factory AC and PWR steering FJ40 1979 for sale in 1 month or so. Super rare and special. The two 1983 factory AC and PWR steer FJ40’s you see in the background are not for sale, they are both 1 owner, 2 of the 30 produced in 1983, the last year import FJ40, 300 came to the states in 83. I have a lower end 1971 mostly stock FJ40 that will be for sale in the coming 2 months. I have a 1965 Unimog 406 that will be for sale as well. I’m new to cruisers can you talk with me for hours about this hobby? Please no, I can’t field the 100 emails a day about this; I can direct you to some good websites like CCOT and TLC with great info. Will you add things to this 74 FJ40? Yes, email me with the add-ons you want and I will give you a price. Financing? I do not finance or take payments, banks will not finance a FJ40, there are a couple credit unions that do, please check before you bid. Safe to say financing is near impossible. I've lowered the BIN price by thousands, this truck will be sold. I built this FJ40 for a customer, he ran out of money and backed out half-way through, I had to finish it as the parts were already purchased. THis much time and energy is always put into a stock restoration at my shop, as they are worth the most money. This 74 took just as long and more money in parts to complete than a stock unit. I will be losing a tremendous amount of money even at the BIN, so get a custom one of a kind rig at my expense.
