Vehicle Detail
Offered at no reserve, this 1977 Buick Electra limited was the last new car bought by our neighbors. They purchased the car on Jan 27, 1977 from the Ideal Buick Garage in Frederick, Md. They paid $7,868 for the car. The husband was a knowledgeable car owner and carefully maintained the car until he stopped driving in 2002. The car was always garaged and the owner used Mobil One synthetic oil after the first oil change. My wife was given the car in 2003, and I have driven it sparingly since. The car runs and drives well. I put 4 BF Goodrich , white wall radials on it a few years ago. They are 215-70-15s and have a 640 tread rating. I am a car collector and know these cars well. I have most of the car's original documents, including the window sticker and owner manual. The car shows nearly 70,000 miles but mileage could be higher. The original owner was in his late sixties and kept it for 25 years. Mechanically, I am not aware of any major faults, given the car is 35 years old. (See my notes below) I have it registered as an Historic vehicle and have driven it about 2,000 miles since 2003. The 403 cubic inch engine runs quiet and smooth. The car has a limited slip differential and all the power equipment standard on Buick's best model in 1977. The mechanical issues I have noticed is a very fast idle on cold starts. The engine runs at 1500 rpm for several miles before it slows down once fully warm. Although all the AC components are in place, no AC - hopefully, the system just needs to be serviced and recharged. The heater works fine. Car's Cosmetics: The car's interior is very nice with only a few flaws - cracked arm rest on the 2 front doors. The car was repainted in 1988 and now the clear cost is coming off the hood and trunk. The white vinyl roof is stained and has some cracks. The grille has a small crack, one of the front bumper guards is rusted, and the rear bumper had surface rust - which I sanded off and painted to make it look better. Most of the stainless trim is in excellent condition. This past summer I touched up rust spots around front fender trim and headlight areas and other areas needing attention. I used factory matched paint but it doesn't match the 25 year old paint well. There is small dent in the driver's side quarter panel. Given these faults. the car still looks presentable. It would look great given a competent respray back to it original factory color. If you can come and look at the car, please do. Otherwise, I will try to answer any questions related to the car .
