Vehicle Detail

The Car Store of Poughkeepsie in Hopewell Junction,NY is proud to be able to offer for bid/sale AT NO RESERVE this exceedingly rare and hard to find ONE OWNER 1985 Subaru XT-GL coupe in the coveted first year of production and having only been driven 74,000 miles from new. Simple math means it's been driven a little more than 2500 miles/year in it's 27 years. Obvious from its condition these are likely just pleasure use miles on an extremely well preserved and garage kept example. The car still proudly wears the original Subaru selling dealer "stick on" vanity identifier on the trunk lid. Sold new by DiFeo Subaru in Jersey City,NJ and recently/reluctantly traded by the original owner on a new Volkswagen after moving several years ago from NJ to NY. When these cars were introduced by Subaru they caused quite a sensation by their radical departure from the traditional Subaru corporate design theme. At the time the car industry was in the grips of the aerodynamic "wedge" shape design mania led by world famous and master designer Giorgetto Giugiaro founder of Ital Design whom Ferarri hires for most their vehicles. These cars were the most aerodynamically shaped in the world upon introduction and this helped their newly introduced MPFI aka multipoint fuel injection 1.8L "boxer" 4cyl make the most of its (try not to laugh too hard here) neck snapping 94 horsepower. Due to the cars shape this powerplant didn't have to strain too hard to easily keep pace with any traffic conditions plus helped return a very respectable 26-28 mpg hghway. Easily acheives 300 miles/tankful on regular unleaded gas. The following describes the various standard and dealer installed accessories of this example : 1.8L "boxer" 4cyl w/ 94HP;electronically controlled 3 speed automatic transmission;dealer installed factory Subaru air conditioning which is complete but not functioning currently (may be due to safety protocols which negate compressor engagement during cold Winter temps such as now);enormous & removable factory rear tilting sunroof;power steering;power brakes;power mirrors;model unique 2-spoke tilting & telescoping steering wheel which modulates with instrument cluster;complete & fully functioning engine monitoring gauges;model unique 4-lug factory alloy wheels w/ matching all season tires;upgraded digital audio w/ cassette player inc power antenna w/ newly replaced mast;height & lumbar adjustable front seats;uniquely positioned control stalks behind steering wheel that operate the fully functioning hideaway headlights/flash to pass mode/delay wipers/rear defroster and climate control functions;Subaru dealer installed auxilliary driving lights that STILL have the original/undamaged covers w/ the Subaru logo;dealer installed body side moldings/rear trunk mounted luggage carrier/pinstripes & antitheft window VIN etching;Subaru dealer applied aftermarket Ziebart rustproofing/undercoating/paint protection & fabric guard (a highly profitable aftersell package for the dealer) which helped preserve this car as it looks presently;trunk mounted & never used mini spare tire w/ its original cover;the single windshield wiper w/ delay control and factory tinted glass. Finally the condition of the interior is simply incredible with the light blue cloth front seats having the dark blue "tabby" stripes and the rear bench seat in matching blue vinyl with its folding seatback. There is only minmal compression wear evident on the drivers seat. The interior panels and carpeting are wonderfully preserved and if you are lucky enough to own one of these you know that it's now impossible to find replacement pieces in this condition new or used. There are a few (4-5) and very minor dings that did not break the paint and can easily be remedied via any company that performs paintless dent removal services. Additionally there is some minor road rash on the nose of the car that is also easily remedied by any company using what is commonly called the "Chips Away" process. Purists would find this distracting from originality if done which is why I've chosen to leave the car as it is presented. They are only original once and worth more that way. I have used this car recently for two 1000 mile round trips from my residence in the Hudson Valley area of NY State to Bangor,ME and was extremely surprised to find just how comfortable the seats were without any of the normal fatigue one would expect in a 27 year old car. Thumbs up to the seat designers at Subaru !! The car had no problem keeping up with traffic in the 75-80 mph range and had passing power to spare when needed. It gets stared at and thumbs up wherever I drive it. It's one of those cars that brings back good memories and just makes people happy. I would hope the new owner will share that by using it frequently and/or displaying it at car shows. Due to it's originality it would easily be an award winner in any preservation class : for example at the Hershey/Carlisle,Pa shows and especially one of the Hemmings gatherings in Vt. Additionally due to being 25+ years old this car can be registered and insured as a classic car for dirt cheap money. It just keeps getting better doesn't it? As viewed in these pics this is how the car looked when traded and it has since been subjected to a complete detailing. The engine compartment pics show what appears as rust but the application of the Ziebart rustproofing/undercoating is extremely tacky for a long time afterwards and attracts and holds dirt. There is no rust through condition just the start of very minor oxidation at the weep holes in the factory sheetmetal. I am being ridiculously overdescriptive here for everyones benefit. Lastly the car has easily passed a recent NY Sate annual vehicle inspection and was given a complete lubrication service. Upon inspection it was noted that a significant amount of maintenance was completed inc every major engine tune up piece, new exhaust sytem and other items. Please understand that due to the age of the car and the selling forum here I am selling it "as is" and welcome your inspection and any questions you may have. Feel free to contact me here or directly via cell at 914-456-1215 and ask for Greg. Buyers have the option of purchasing a nationwide service contarct varying in lenght from 3 months/3000 miles to 36 months/36,000 at additional cost for your piece of mind. I offer the 3-month contract for a rock bottom price of $195 and unlike almost all sellers on eBay I charge no insulting "paperwork processing" or documentaion fees. The final selling/bidding price is the price you pay : PERIOD. Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs and fees associated with registering the car in your home state. NY State buyers will have to pay the currently applicable sales tax rate for the county where the vehicle is to be registered prior to receiving the title and reassignment paperwork. Please have your funds for purchase available in advance of bidding and a 20% deposit is required within 48 hours of placing your winning bid . Full payment is due within 7 days of auction completion. I reserve the right to end the auction prior to completion of same since this car is also advertised locally. If you have less than 10 positive buyer ratings, have negative ratings or none at all please contact me prior to bidding otherwise I reserve the right to reject/block your bids. Thank you for viewing my listing of this truly unique car and good luck bidding. Greg Arnold-Owner @ The Car Store of Poughkeepsie since 1991. Please note : this car is being relisted because the previous winning bidder "stanteo19881988" has refused to live up to his legal and moral obligation to purchase and pay for the car. I have received nothing but excuses and silence from him after many polite requests to live up to his obligations as stated quite clearly by eBay practices regarding buyers and sellers. If any of you sellers ever see his bid on your items be aware he is the classic unresponsive non-paying bidder we all dread having contact with. After giving him three full weeks to do the right thing with no response and then reporting him eBay has graciously consented to refund my fees. Here again is a rare chance to buy a one of a kind collectors item for very little money. In the interest of full disclosure for those that absolutely need to know : the final winning bid was $2850 and there were 14 different bidders who placed a total of 32 bids. On Jan-26-12 at 13:42:02 PST, seller added the following information: Thanks to all the interested and knowledgeable bidders who have called with your questions and especially those of you local bidders who took the opportunity to view the vehicle in person. I applaud that effort and all your wonderful compliments regarding the vehicle presentation after being cleaned/detailed since these pics were taken. You are a very loyal and proud Subaru group and I feel comfortable knowing that the car will continue to be cared for and preserved as it is currently. Best wishes to all of you in anticipation of your winninng bid and my thanks for your interest. It's these types of cars and the simple pleasure they bring that makes being involved in this industry so enjoyable for me. Most of all being able to offer something that will never be worth less than the price someone paid plus will continue to escalate in value because we all know Subaru isn't building any more of them. It's very interesting to me wondering what this vehicle will be worth when it's 30 years old in this condition. I'm sure I'll put myself in the category we all have been where we realize we should never have sold the car.
