I am selling this vehicle for my brother-in-law. This is a 1973 VW 141 (Thing). It belonged to famed aviator, Larry Byerly, President of Byerly Aviation. Larry passed away last year and his widow asked if I would help with selling this car because I maintained it for so many years. The fact that you are looking at this add means you already know what a VW Thing is so I will just move on to the facts on this particular one. Larry bought this car from the original owner in 1990 with only 54,000 miles on the clock. Even though ths car was near mint, Larry wanted it perfect (just like his airplanes). He had his aircraft interior shop completely redo the interior with the best quality materials available. He also had a new rag top and side windows of the best quality from the Thing shop installed. There were some rock chips on the nose so he had his aircraft paint shop repaint the car the original color with Imron paint for durability. Larry didn't want to leave a stone unturned so he had me do the engine overhaul (even though it was low miles) and install a complete new clutch assembly. A complete brake job was also performed at this time. This particular car came with a rare gas heater option and is in perfect working condition. This car also comes with a rare factory hard top (not after market). The hard top was also refinished at the time the car was repainted. New glass and rubber seals were installed that time. This car has no and never has had any rust anywhere. It's never been in an accident and runs and drives like a VW Thing is apposed to.
