Vehicle Detail
A all original & documented 1967 Porsche 912 sitting in the original owner's garage since 1990. A garage find that had this Porsche sitting in a inch of dust for over 22 years. Never to been advertised for sale anywhere. Here is a story of the original owner (a NASA team member) & his 1967 Porsche . 1967 - 1990Harry R. Chiles worked for NASA & was stationed at Dryden Flight Research Center in Edwards,Calif. in 1967. He was in need of a car & had his mind set on a new Porsche. He end up purchasing this 912 from "Van Wyk Of Bakersfield" in Bakersfield, Calif. It was finance thru the NASA Federal Credit Union. Harry drove it for many years to work until he reach retirement in 1988. He met his wife & then children came along. The Porsche was parked in the garage in May/90 & for the next 22 years it sat. 1990 - 2011The original owner mention every time his garage door was open, someone would drive by & ask if the Porsche might be for sale. Same answer every time someone asked, "Never". Dust & dirt covered the 912. It was being used as a storage on the inside. His intention was to one day have it restored & put it back on the road. Late last year, I was lucky enough to have passed on by & talked Harry, the original owner on selling it. He mention that he wouldn't get the chance to ever restoring as health became a issue & hopes someone keep's it original as he did.A True California 912 in Survivor condition. Only to been registered to the original owner. To remain all original & kept hidden away for 20+ years. Up For Auction At 5 Days With No Reserve - Sold To The Highest Bidder The original owner in the above photo, Harry R. Chiles. _________________________________ Documented 912 with the original dealer window sticker, receipts, owners manual & almost every registration card from 1968 till' present. All original including the Polo Red paint & matching numbers thru out. A rare to see factory air conditioning Porsche. Since the original owner lived in Lancaster & commuted to work in Edwards (38 miles), air condition was a must in the desert. The flight research center is located in a high heat climate year round. Spending it's entire life in dry Southern California & still wearing it's original Black plates/dealer license frames. This Porsche has hardly seen rain, due to the area. All the floors pans, spare tire well, jack points, rear torsion area & rockers are solid & most important, original. Never to been restored or taken apart. Remains the original paint & you can see the factory primer coming right thru. Porsche's that have never been rusted are extremely difficult to find. Well this is the difficult to find solid 912 that still wears it's original paint. The body has never been in a accident & is pretty straight for it's condition. Has couple of small dings but nothing major. All the original trim & chrome is intact. Glass all appears to be factory. All correct & dated Porsche wheels 5/66. It's complete & very original. The interior is 100% bone stock. The dash is uncut & never been modified. Remains the original 5 gauge instrumental panel, Blaupunkt radio & wooden steering wheel. As you can see from the photos, the interior is 100% original & complete. Headliner is in tact, floors mats & door panels. The engine/transmission is original & matching *751029*. The owner mention that the drivetrain has never came out of the car & has never been modified. Stock carburetors & Knecht air cleaners. The engine has been sitting for the last 20+ years. Recently, I primed the carburetors & added fresh gas to them. I then installed a newer battery & it started up right. The engine will need to be serviced though. Carburetors need to be rebuilt & the original fuel pump as well. Most important, the engine does run but will need the normal procedure after sitting for so long to drive. I have included a video of it running if you scroll at the bottom of the page. This 912 did come with air conditioning but was removed in the 80's after not working. The owner put all the parts in a box & years passed on that he forgot where they where. All the tires are old but do hold air (it does roll/steer). Has all the original Porsche "1536" wheels including spare. Has the original jack & tool bag. The tool bag is missing all the tools except one. Overall, a complete & original 1967 Porsche 912. It's getting to be impossible to see original paint, owned by the original owner & fully documented cars out there anymore. Especially a early California Black plate Porsche that was sleeping for the last 22 years. Hidden away in the original owner's garage.Don't miss out on your chance on this first time up for sale 1967 912. A great canidate for a restoration or keep it original. ____________________ Conclusion & Terms _________________________ I have set my auction at 5 Days With No Reserve, so please only serious bidding.
