Vehicle Detail
1969 351w 2V, FMX Auto, PS, 3.0 standard axle, Disk Brakes & A/C. This is a true Mach 1 originally delivered to Heintzelmans Ford in Orlando, Deluxe Marti Report included. This car is a #3 driver quality vehicle with a long list of new parts installed and a stack of receipts to go with it. Owner history is known and documented back to the early 80’s; I am at least the third owner. Since no one likes surprises when buying an old car, especially online, this ad will detail all that is known about the car, both good and not so good. Here is the good: The Mach 1 runs and drives well, turning heads every time I drive it. It’s 10 footer and is fun to take to cruise nights and putt around town in. Much work has been done in resurrecting this car. The engine and engine compartment have been detailed and returned to a period correct appearance. The upholstery has been replaced with TMI upholstery. The Mach 1 has been professionally detailed and buffed out to a nice shine with most of the exterior bright work replaced. Here is a partial list of what has been replaced in the last year: front & rear bumpers, Tires, Complete Brakes (including calipers, shoes, drums, master and booster), Carburetor, Distributor, Pertronix, Alternator, PS Pump, Radiator, Upholstery, hoses, battery, gas tank, Flip Open Gas Cap, exterior bright trim, front & rear valences, exhaust tips. Here is the not so good: The Mach 1 sat in a carport unused for over 10 years prior to my purchase. It was covered with spider webs, so much so that I felt the need to tent and fumigate the entire car. Detective work with the car on the lift revealed that sometime in the late 70’ or early 80’s, the car was hit hard in the rear and a 70 Calypso Coral rear was hung on the car (notice the 70 rear quarter lights and orange paint in trunk floor). The body work is pretty good quality, but the rear floor pans were lapped instead of butt welded or replaced. Originally a Black Jade (dark olive green) color, it was repainted its current Red in the early 90's. The paint looks good from 10 feet away but its flaws become apparent as you get closer, it needs a repaint. Sail panel emblems held on with double sided tape, rivets were ground off before last paint job. There is rust in doors; lower quarters and driver rear frame rail, floor pans only have a few pin holes. The A/C inoperable, heater core leaks and is bypassed. The FMX leaks despite a replacement pan, looks like the shifter seal (which is a common problem for old Fords). Paint has chips, bubbles and cracks. In conclusion: I bought this car from a friend with the goal of making it a good driver in the short term and a possible restoration in the long term. As is the case for many of us old car guys, I ended up with too many projects and not enough time or money for all of them, so this one needs a new home.
