Vehicle Detail
With much regret allready, I am listing on the auction block one of my most loved automobiles. I will give you the short version of the history on this vehicle. This 1993 Nissan 300ZX was purchased in 2004 by a very good friend of mine. He purchased it for $13,200.00 with a little over 55,000 miles on it. It was always garaged and well kept. The vehicle was used as his sunny day and weekend driver. He became heavily involved in motorcycle racing and the car was getting used less and less. In 2007 the car was covered and prepared for winter storage. That was the last time he drove the car. He started it up and pumped the brakes a few times every month but had lost total interest in driving it. I have bugged him monthly to sell the car for years since it was just sitting. I have been activly seeking an early Porsche 356 for me and wife to drive on the weekends but have not found the right deal yet. Knowing the condition of this 300ZX I figured it would be a great car we can get in and drive with less worries and 1/4 of the cost. So finally this fall We reached an agreed price of $8600 and I purchased the 300zx. Being the clean freak that I am, the car had a few small dings and light scratches in the paint that I couldnt get past. I decided to disassemble the car and have it re-painted completely. Fenders, hood, bumpers, handles, lights, emblems and all trim was removed for a picture perfect paint job. ALL of our paint work is performed by "Mully". A private painter with a full restoration shop in Freeport Il. The car was completely stripped, straightened, primed and painted the original Nissan MC197 red. Once cured it was 90% flat sanded and buffed. You can see from the pictures (which are near to impossible to take without mirror images showing up) that the car is well beyond a daily driver quality job. The original gravel guard was left on the lower section of the car, but I did not put the original gray pin stripe back on. I could do that for the next owner if desired. The price of paint and body work was $6287.00 Interior wise... this car is clean!!! There are no tears in the seats or in any of the upholstery. Door panels are flawless, as well as all of the sued under dash and full wrap around behind the seats. The leather T-top bags are still with the car and in perfect condition as well. The roll up trunk cover/window screen is also inslalled and works perfectly. All dash controls are in perfect shape and everything on the car functions perfectly. As you can see from the options list, this 300 was a fully loaded model including factory security system. My friend did have a Pioneer CD changer installed as you can see behind the passanger seat and the readout is located under the stock radio. Other than that, all stereo equipment in the car is the original Bose sound system. Also included but not pictured are the original Z floor mats. Under the hood is the original 3.0L V6 with a low 62,000 miles. Since the snow hit us before I was able to hit the streets with my new car, I figured I would make 100% sure it was ready to go for spring. The clutch felt a little soft when I pulled it in and out of the trailer at the paint shop so I thought I would look into it closer. I adjusted it out and still didnt like it, so I pulled the transmission to inspect. Seeing that the clutch had little life left in it, it was replaced with a full clutch and flywheel assembly from my friends at The Z Connection. This was not an Ebay special clutch set for $300. It is a full chromoly USA made lightened flywheel with all new mounting bolts and a SECO Stage 1 presure plate and a Kush-Lok disc. This is nothing grabby or stiff. A little more holding power than stock with a good stock pedal feel. The original exhaust was in flawless condition and didnt even need heat to remove. Still, I thought a little bit of extra HP with a good sound would be nice and easier to do while the transmission was allready out. I called the Z Connection again and ordered up a full set of Megan Stainless Steel Exhaust. This included, Equal length 304 headers, 2 1/2" downpipes with high-flow cats, 2 1/2" mid pipe and a 2 1/2" cat-back muffler system with the Quad 3" tips. The fit is as close to factory as you can get with all of the original exhaust shields still in place. At an idle it sounds close to stock, but it is much throatier when you get up in the Rs. I also threw on the standard K&N cone filter while I had the front bumper and valances off. If the new owner is a purist and does not want the Megan exhaust on the car, I will sell the original complete exhaust to them for $200 and reinstall it at no extra cost. The total cost for all of the new parts explained here was $1612 Also brand new is a full set of Falken Ziex ZE512 tires. I sent the wheels out to be 80% gloss silver powdercoated before having the tires mounted and balanced. Balancing is of coarse glue on weights from the backside not to be visable to the eye. Behind the new tires and wheels is a full set of new Nissan rotors and pads. This work was done by the previous owner at our local Nissan dealer back in 2007 just before he parked the car. The cross hatches are still in the rotors. The cost of tires and rims was $698 So after investing $8600 in the car, I got to drive it 18 miles to my shop. I than invested $8597 in getting the car up to my par and have gotten to drive it 4.8 miles before they salted our roads. Why would I sell it? Because after searching the word over for that perfect Porsche 356 project and all but given up, I find one sitting less than 5 miles away from my shop. I intend to have the 356 ready for spring but need some extra $$ to get it done. I hate to let this car go, but I love its replacement enough to sell this one. The car is always available to be viewed upon request. There is nothing to hide on this one so come at your convenience and run over it with a fine tooth comb. If you have any questions, feel free to call Adam Kottke at 815-222-0644. Email or text is fine as well. The reserve is set at a very fair price. I am not trying to get back all that I invested by any means. These are cars to me, not investments. I would be more than happy to assist in shipping the vehicle on my end. I will not find the carrier or schedule a pick-up, but I can be here to help load it at any time. I could also deliver the car to the Chicago, Milwaukee or Madison area for a reasonable fee to be determined at auction end. I have not pulled a carfax on this car but I am aware of two incidents. My friend who owned the car was rearended once on the left side and than smack dab center in the rear again within the same month. So, the rear bumper and the left rear quarter were repainted once before I got the car. Niether hit was hard enough to need any panels replaced. The bumper was scuffed twice and the rear quarted was dented just below the tail lights. When I had the car apart for re-paint we couldnt even tell what side the repair work was done on. On Jan-20-12 at 12:57:00 PST, seller added the following information: Nothing big but I forgot to include the fact that ever since my friend bought the car, we have serviced it with nothing but Brad Penn oil. It has a fresh oil change on it right now with zero miles on it. I did have the car alighned as well after we replaced the wheels and tires. Both front and rear were done as I remember being in the car years back and it being a little darty. The Z cars are very responsive steering wise but I think it was too positive in the front end for my liking. It is zeroed out now.
