Although the first series cars built from 1953 to 1955 introduced the Corvette to America, it was the second series, which made its debut in 1956, that truly earned the title “America’s Sports Car.” The clean good looks of Harley Earl’s new body design struck a chord with the American public, and it quickly outsold the older style by a margin of three to one. In addition, Zora Arkus-Duntov and Chevrolet Engineering had dramatically altered the personality of Chevrolet’s sports car with a new focus on performance, a growing range of powerful small block V8 engines, and improved handling. Offered here is the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette displaying a beautiful older restoration that was very nicely executed and remains in presentable overall condition today. Complete with painted cream coves and finished in handsome Burgundy exterior paint, it is well paired with cream leather interior and vinyl convertible top. The brightwork is clean, including the vertical trunk trim exclusive only on the 1958 model year. During the restoration, this highly desirable solid axle Corvette was fitted with a rebuilt 327 cubic inch motor, 4-speed manual transmission and stainless steel exhaust. The car shows nicely as a driver with its bright paintwork, clean chrome, underbody, engine and bay. It is not a show car but a very nice driver throughout. Evidence of recent service is noticed by new braided brake line, new single 4 barrel carburetor and new stainless steel exhaust.
