Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is an (e21) 1979 BMW 320i Callaway Edition. This is a Callaway Edition vehicle, and is regarded as a collectible. There are a only handful of Callaway e21s out there, and this is probably the most unique example. Odometer stopped working at 165k when I swapped an engine with 115k on it. Only drove it for 100 miles after the swap. Body has 165k, engine has 115k. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ EXTERIOR Color is Henna Red (hennarot). There are some primer spots here and there, but the body is straight. The underside has surface rust. There are no major areas of concern, except for a few holes in the spare tire well in the trunk. This can be easily taken care of with some body work. Headlights are brand new, and an extra set are included. The highbeams work, the fuse just doesn't sit correctly in the slot. Jiggling the fuse gets the highbeams to work. Taillights function perfectly. Side mirrors come with the car, they are not attached to the body (see pictures). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ INTERIOR Black leather seats (BMW/Recaro bucket seats). There are some small tears in the driver’s seat. The passenger’s seat and rear seats are in perfect condition. The wood middle console is one of a kind, I've never seen it on any other e21. Two VDO gauges built into the console. One is an oil temperature gauge and the other is a vacuum gauge. The Sony headunit needs to be wired to the car, but is fully functional. Personal steering wheel, Nardi shift knob. Driver’s side window bracket needs to be repaired, the window opens, yet sometimes gets stuck and requires effort to close. The passengers side window works flawlessly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ENGINE The original engine with the Callaway turbo kit has been swapped by the previous owner with another M10 with around 115k miles. It is a naturally aspirated engine (non-turbo). The car pulls smoothly in all gears. It just needs the clutch to be replaced (brand new clutch kit included with the car). Transmission shifts smoothly; no noise or any problems. Exhaust is aftermarket, with a glasspack muffler. It is moderately loud, not too obtrusive, yet throaty and performance oriented. The M10 engine sounds like it has a performance cam gear. The idle is rumbly like most race engines, and extremely smooth through the RPM range. There is a small fuel leak which lets out small amounts of fuel on some days. Other days, its leak-free. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SUSPENSION Bilstein springs and shocks, firm yet comfortable ride. Handles like a dream. Brakes work flawlessly, pads need replacing (brand new pads included with the car). Wheels are Epsilons and are worth $2,000+ by themselves. They are in perfect condition. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To sum up, this is a rare example of an e21 BMW. The color is not one you would find often and the fact that it is a Callaway vehicle makes it all the more unique. The dashboard has Callaway branding, the center console is rare and one of a kind, the wheels are valued at 2 thousand alone, and the Bilstein suspension offers a firm yet comfortable ride. Not to mention, the engine pulls hard, sounds fantastic, and the transmission shifts smoothly. The only problems would be the small fuel leak every so often, the small rust holes in the spare tire well, the worn clutch (new clutch included), and the spots that need painting. Other than that, it is a PERFECT PROJECT CAR. I can part this car and make well over 4 thousand, but I’d like to save time by selling this collectable as is. $500 deposit due within 48hrs after end of auction. Vehicle sold as-is. Vehicle is located in Florence, KY. (10 minutes from Cincinnati, Ohio) For any questions, send me a message or contact me by phone at (513) 477-5200.On Jan-05-12 at 00:47:49 PST, seller added the following information: Just to clarify some questions being asked, this is a one of a kind collectible vehicle. The wood center console is the only one in the world. The interior is very unique and extremely hard to find. I forgot to mention that the sunroof works perfectly, but the plastic handle that opens the sunroof is missing. It can be bought and installed for a very small cost. The side mirrors are not included, contrary to what I said above. More specifically, the underside of the car has small, scattered patches of rust, surface only, no holes whatsoever, except for what I mentioned above, in the spare tire well. Fuel leak is caused by a crack in the tank, which can be sealed off easily, or replaced, whichever you like. ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE VEHICLE AND IS WORTH AT LEAST 5k IN PARTS ALONE. THE WHEELS (EPSILON BRAND) ARE 2k BY THEMSELVES. IT IS A COLLECTIBLE CALLAWAY EDITION VEHICLE. PERFECT FOR SOME RESTORATION TO MAKE IT THE ULTIMATE CLASSIC BMW. Contact me with any questions via message or phone, (513) 477-5200. Vehicle sold as-is. $500 due within 48hrs of auction end.
