Vehicle Detail
This '26 Dodge Bros. spent all of his time in southern California. It is 99% rust-free, with only two or three hairline cracks in the running boards and two of the bed supports, what we now call stake pockets, have a small amount of break-thru rust at the bottoms. Photos will show these spots. The cowl, the bottom of the doors and all other areas are totally rust free. In addition there is only one or two very small dents in the fenders and I found no indication of body work ever being done on this vehicle. Imagine how much a clean, straight, rust free body saves in restoration work. I have not started this vehicle and there is a crack in the water jacket of the engine. This is NOT a pressurized cooling system and repairs can be made. I believe the engine compartment is complete and there are some extra engine parts with the vehicle. For a restoration the engine could be repaired or replaced. I believe this engine was the same for 1917 on up thru 1928, but you must check this out. The vehicle, of course, is for sale AS-IS, WHERE-IS. My goals for this vehicle were to create a unique theme vehicle using the theme of the Yuma Territorial Prison, with the prison logo showing on both doors , with matching screen doors mounted on the back, with wood bench seats inside, with handcuffs and all showing on the side screens. A driver protection screen would be appropriate and matching screen woven wire is currently available. I have both side screens. All the glass is unbroken but I certainly would replace it with new safety glass. The roof structure remains are good enough for a pattern and I have considered a chop on the top which would be very easy to do. Original seats are included but not in photos. Also spare rim but not spoke portion. Two new headlight glass pieces are included OF COURSE, this screen side pickup can be restored to original condition. 24 photos are attached. Many more are available, send your phone number so I can call you and get your email address and discuss the truck or call me, Ken, at 602-206-9937, my cell. IF I don't answer, please leave a message and I will call you back. I have a nationwide transporter or you can find your own. Nationwide Reliable Carriers is located with a mile of my home. Phone number is 480-496-8000. Bill Neal is the general manager.Transportation costs are your responsibility. Truck is located in ZIP 85226, Chandler, AZ. Two tires still hold air. Two have gone flat but should air for loading. Payment required: Buyer will send $500 via PayPal, within two days (48 hours) of the close of the auction. Balance due within five more days via bank wire transfer to my account company account, Arizona Gold'N Classics, Inc.. A clear Arizona Title, in my name, will then be sent via USPS Certified Mail to buyer and vehicle will be available for pickup. Sorry, no cashiers checks. Cash for balance due will be accepted in person at a local bank where documents can be transferred to buyer. Vehicle can be removed at that time. Deposit is forfeited IF buyer fails to pay balance due timely and fails to communicate with seller. "Barn Fresh Vehicles are still out there. Jack Lankershim purchased this 1926 Dodge “Screen Side” pickup for use on his Hollywood farm. Known formally as a “Dodge Screen Commercial Car” it was mainly used for taking his produce from the farm to the Los Angeles marketplace. The screens would hold everything in yet not heat the farm produce up as a closed vehicle would tend to do. The original California “pink slip” came with the truck as signed by Jack Lankershim showing the date first sold as 2-24-1926. Even more interesting is that the address shows to be 10640 Ventura Blvd,, Lankershim, California, which no longer exists. Lankershim is now known as North Hollywood.Jack Lankershim was the son of Col. J. B. Lankershim (1851-1931) and the grandson of Issac Lankershim, both famous early Californians. Issac Lankershim (1818-1882) bought the lower ½ of the San Fernando Valley for $115,000 and farmed about 60,000 acres of wheat, centered around his town of Lankershim, CA., later to be re-named North Hollywood. Col. J. B. Lankershim had many businesses, including the Lankershim Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. along with other very valuable real estate. Jack Lankershim apparently ran the San Fernando ranch started by Issac and owned by J. B, who began the real estate developments by enticing the early movie stars to locating in his developments. Much detail history goes with this vehicle This vehicle was acquired from Jack in the late 1940’s and passed through a few owners until acquired by the Moran family in 1974. It was used periodically in parades but mostly hibernated in the family barn just one block east of downtown Riverside, CA for the last 30 years. Acquired by Arizona Gold’N Classics, Inc. in 2005 after a family member told a friend who told a friend….and so on……until word reached Arizona Gold’N Classics describing the barn vehicle. The Dodge is resting in Arizona, virtually original and rust free, awaiting a restoration or modernization (HotRod), or possibly a new caretaker to maintain the original status The Moran family acquired this vehicle from Richard Sweet, 322 S. Grand Oaks, Pasadena, CA June 28, 1974, who had acquired it September 6, 1965 from George W. Huntoon of 434 N. Carmelo, Pasadena. The Dodge had been stored for some period on wood blocks and Mr. Sweet completed the State of California Statement of Facts verifying the non-operation of the truck. On October 1, 1966 Mr. Sweet complied with the State of California requirement that the vehicle be weighed by a public weighmaster. Apparently Mr. Sweet had the Dodge operational as we have the State of California Special Moving Permit allowing him to drive the vehicle to a weigh station. The certificate indicates a weigh of 2,780 pounds. Other documentation currently available indicates the original owner, Jack Lankershim, applied for a Duplicate Registration card sometime after October, 1950 using California form 228, as revised in October, 1950. This form stated that the 1926 Dodge carried plate # 67X707 for the year 1942. Additionally, another Certificate of Non-Operation dated August 17, 1957 states the Dodge has not been operational since 1942. This certificate is signed by the Hutton Bros., 156 Alessandro, San Clemente. The final, but best documentation that survives with this 80 year old vehicle is the original California pink slip signed by Jack Lankershim showing the date first sold, and the date issued, as 2-24-1926. Even more interesting is that the address shows to be 10640 Ventura Blvd,, Lankershim, California, although below it shows No. Hollywood, which could have been typed later, as the type is quite different. Parts of the pink slip are now unreadable. Grand Oaks, Pasadena and placed it back on blocks. October 15, 1965 State of California Suspense Receipt. Additionally stating “unavailable records, trf only, Classify body type”. November 16, 1965 Letter from Dept. of Motor Vehicles to Mr. Sweet stating That his application for transfer is being held up for a Weight Certificate and a Statement of Facts. September 30, 1966 State of California Special Moving Permit signed by Mr. Sweet, good for moving the Dodge on October 1, 1966 to a weighing or inspection station. October 1, 1966 State of California Public Weighmaster’s Certificate of Weight and Measure showing a tare weight of 2,780 # for a cost of $50.00 November 28, 1966 State of California Certificate of Ownership stamped “Vehicle Not Currently Registered” and wrongly showing the “year sold” as “1965” but with the correct engine #. 1967 Registration card: Richard J. Woodbury Rd, Altadena, CA and stating “Notice of Incomplete Application” requiring a Certificate of Compliance from a Motor Vehicle Pollution Control Installation and Inspection Station, to be submitted within 120 days. August 31, 1974 Certificate of Compliance, Motor vehicle Pollution Control. I have both copies, including the top one that states “For Vehicle Registration Purposes Only”. June 1, 1993 Statement to DMV saying the Dodge was last registered in 1974 and that, at that time, I lived in Altadena, CA 91001, signed by probably James Moran July 8, 1994 Appears that Joe Moran took over vehicle and started searching for parts.
