Vehicle Detail
1964 Jaguar Mark X (MK X, Mark 10, MK 10), British Racing Green / Biscuit This head turning Mark X is 90% restored and needs someone with the love for Jaguars and the financial resources to finish the remaining restoration tasks needed to get this car back on the road (see below). It has the original engine and matching numbers. I have owned over 20 Jaguars and restored several Jaguars since the early 70’s. I originally found this car in Ojai, California in the mid 1980’s and had the engine, transmission & brakes rebuilt. Due to a busy career and other projects, the car went into storage until 2006. I am now semi-retired but am very involved with a small software business I am developing. Long story short is, I don’t really have the time to personally complete the car, I am still too busy with other things so I have decided to let someone else buy the car and finish what I started. Here’s has been done to the car so far : · The original Jaguar 3.8 Liter, 6-cylinder engine with hemi-head with dual cams & 24 valves, 3 carburetors and brakes were professionally rebuilt around 1987 and then the car was stored unit 2006. (Cost over $5,000.00). · Work done since 2006 includes: o Body prep and new British Racing Green paint job (did my own bodywork & painting) – materials cost over $500.00 o Electric window motors rebuilt (by local auto electric shop) o New rubber installed in front and rear windows – MK X rubber kit cost $1,000.00 from XK’s unlimited o All new chrome - cost over $1,500.00 o All new walnut burl wood (every piece of wood was redone by Madera Concepts in Goleta, CA) – cost over $7,000.00, most of the wood has been refitted o All new biscuit upholstery (seats, headliner, visors, carpets, doors, trunk, cover for heater in engine compartment) - purchased from BAS in British Columbia – cost $8,500.00 plus $5,000.00 to install o 2 rear gas tanks were removed and rebuilt, new hoses & fuel pumps installed – cost over $500.00 o Had 4 wheel rims widened by 2 inches – cost over $300.00 o All new wide tires – cost over $500.00 o Two new stainless steel rear mufflers and exhaust pipes from XK’s Unlimited (not installed yet) – cost over $500.00 o Original Jaguar radio was rebuilt – cost over $200.00 o Comes with original tool kit & tools – cost over $500.00 Here are some of the remaining things to do: · The rebuilt engine sat idle for over 15 years - needs cleaning and a major tune-up (starts easily, runs a little rough) · The engine compartment needs repaint & detailing after sitting so long · The aluminum engine parts need polishing after sitting so long · Steering wheel shaft needs a bushing replaced near the top · Some of the electrical wiring is not working (lights, turn signals, horns, electric windows) – needs an auto electric expert to sort it out · Brakes need new rubber seals & bleeding after sitting for so long (brakes work well enough to stop car when moving it in and out of garage) · New upholstery (door panels, arm rests) and new wood have not been installed on doors · New chrome trim has not been installed on front and rear window rubber · New door and trunk rubber has not been installed · New Seat belts need to be installed before wood can be installed on side posts · Chrome trim around door windows has minor pitting – it’s okay but if you want a show car the chrome trim needs to be redone · Drivers side window glass has some scratches and probably should be replaced Most of the remaining work I listed above could be accomplished without any large outlay of money and could be completed over the summer. So far I have spent over $30,000.00 on the restoration (not including $5,000.00 I originally paid for the car in 1986). The Mark X: One Big and Rare Saloon – In October 1961 Jaguar cars brought a beautiful saloon to the London Motor Show, a car which was to set a new standard in automotive design and comfort. Announced seven months after the E-Type, the Mark X was the largest Jaguar ever produced. The massive bulk of the car was disguised with innovative styling, which was much lower and sleeker than the Mark IX. The styling was thoroughly modern as the bonnet was lowered and a slimmer grill was sloped forward to give the impression of less height. The car features quad headlights and smaller 14 inch wheels to help disguise the size of the car. The Mark X used the engine from the E-Type, which was enlarged to 3.8 liters and was rated at 265 hp @ 5500 rpm, and came with triple HD8 SU carburetors, giving it plenty of get up and go.
