Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a daily driver if you can handel harsh or a trail worthy 1978 toyota landcruiser fj 40 convertible hard top. It has a story and lots of upgrades but it aint done. It needs body work and electrical. The power train is fully operational in its condition and you could drive it across the country as is. I can slap a mirror on the side and make it pass a sheriff inspection. I got it from a friend and peiced it back togeather enough to be able to drive it 500 miles on pavement and 2 miles off road without a problem. Drove it to work a few times, Drove from louisville to madison and back and hit a trail up there. Drove to Oldham County and back and hit a trail there. It dose ok and its reliable. Mechanical fuel pump so its more polite to dump a little gas in the carb if its been sitting a few days but it will eventually kick if you just want to crank it enough times. Most of was it rebuilt not too long ago. The engine has probly 6000 miles but has the wrong carb on it, it dosn't get enough air to the engine to let it get above 2200 rpm under load and 3 or 4 grand neutral rev. It only goes about 50 miles per hour, but because of the manual steering and no drop pitman arm or a way to straighten out steering from the lift kit you wouldn't want to go over 45 mph any way so it dose fine for what it is. The axels and transfer case have less than a thousand miles with 4.10:1 ratios in all three. New clutch with the engine rebuild. The transmission is the 4 speed and has a quarter million miles on it but I dont think its going any time soon. Front brakes just rebuilt with new calipers. All newish balljoints and tie rod ends. It has 6" of lift 4" of HFS springs and 2" of shackle. It can fit 35" tires but its currently sitting on some worn out 31's. The axels are stock with arb air locking differentials front and rear, it will do a true 4 wheel burnout, or a two wheel or a one wheel or a three wheel, you have full controll of your axels. The front hubs are warn manual locking. DUI distributer. It has a front bumper that is capable of bolting a winch onto and protecting it on the trail. It has an upgraded e brake that is a caliper behind the transfer case, its not hooked up to the cable at the dash but its there. x bound seat covers but they have seen better days. High Lift Jack (can also be used as come along). There is an upgrade for power steering that uses a gm pump and a newer landcruiser steering gear that Ive got the parts for except the belt and a bracket that needs to be fabricated to bolt to the engine front and give the gm bracket something to bolt to. There is a sheet of fiberglass that was the inside of the bed that I ripped out that still form fits back in place that I thought of using as a bed liner. Its there so it goes with it. The spare tire is out of the junk yard and its a worn out 33 but the rim matched just needs to be painted. I still have the original tire carrier but its not on the truck, for one I dont think the metal thats there can support the weight and the holes arn't drilled for it yet. I got these auto ballencers that I havn't tried yet, they bolt on behind the rim but if the studs arnt long enough than they cant be used without swapping studs. I know an aluminium rim will not fit this truck because the stud isnt long enough to deal with the extra thickness. The body needs work. the rear tub was all but rotted out. I ripped all the bondo off of it, and if someone tells ya that aint good stuff Ive seen a whole back end constructed entirely out of it and last 15 years just fine. Ive been welding metal into it to reconstruct it and its doable but it might be better off with a new tub. When I started the amblance doors wouldn't close because the tub was spreading, I have that held in place with a ratchet strap around the sport bar so now the doors close and I started welding it in that position so that when the structure is there again its in the right place. The tail lights arn't stock but they are there. The electrical caught on fire at one point when the previous owner got rid of it to me. I have it spliced back togeather but it would be best to get a new harness into it. Most every thing is hooked up right. The horn honks when you pull the flash for the high beams. When you push high beams on its fine that only dose high beams. Idk I thought it was funny so I left it though I dont know how to change it without diagnosis part of why I left it. It has one wiper but it works and its on the driver side. Heaters arnt hooked up and parts are missing from that, my thought was get some cheep heater core and set it in a box welded togeather in the bed or something. The back right pop out window met a tree one day. The liscense plate frame is gone and some almost stock looking lights are mounted straight on the door and the plate is bolted straight to the door. Only the ammeter works on the guage cluster as far as I can tell. Getting it where its going. Its a harsh vehicle to drive so over 50 miles I wouldn't suggest. I would trailer it but it will drive reliably. Its a good trail rig. It has potential to be a great trail rig for cheap. It could evan be a show truck if you have the time that I am just plum out of. I got another truck and other things to do at this point. Good Luck and Happy Bidding. Somebody is gonna have them some fun this winter. New pics up. There is a spare tire on an aluminium rim that is a 31, it just has to be swapped with the tire in the back of the truck to have 5 matching rims with matching tire sizes. Right now whats on the truck is a street tire. A tire with a burnout groove in the tread. There are two that are decent and the spare 31 is good. They all hold air, evan the spare 33. So thinking about the drivability of this truck if you pay for the gas Id be willing to drive it out to you or make the trip with you basically because I and two others are the only ones that can drive it. It is a harsh vehicle. Its carburated so fluttering the throttel, warming it up, no power steering, bump steer bigger than whats metionable. The bump steer is so bad it can throw you into the other lane if you arnt ready for it. Ive driven a good few landcruisers and Id imagine any one bidding has too so a lot of this information might just be for my own carma but I like to be fully honest. The lockers are cool. The truck is reliable. Its just hard to drive.
