Vehicle Detail
I need to sell my freshly restored '68 912. If you were bidding on the white car that sold last week, this is your lucky day! I think mine is at least as nicely done and a LOT more correct. So.... 1968 Porsche 912 Coupe VIN 12805403 in Bahama Yellow with 81,000 original miles. This is an original CA black car the spent it's entire life in the Central Valley. It has never lived anywhere with damp or salty air and is completely rust free. I am the third owner. I purchased the car from the estate of Porsche factory driver Milt Minter a few years ago and have been working on it ever since. The car sat for a long time and battery acid damage required replacement of the fuel tank support but there are NO other areas of the car that had anything more than light surface rust. I have completely restored this car to a very high standard. My previous car, a '74 911, won it's class in the Parade Concours twice. I know how to build a nice car! The car includes an original tool kit, Messko tire gauge, jack and owner's manual. I do not have the radio or emissions system manuals or the warrranty booklet. It originally had dealer installed AC but it was removed long ago. I have most of the system and it will be included with the car. Here's a list of all that I know about the car and all that I did in the process of the restoration. Engine; Low miles on rebuilt with 1720 big bore kit. Engine was completely re-sealed, cleaned and inspected before re-installing. All tin was powder coated and all hardware replated. All vacuum plumbing and fittings are intact. Currently running 031 distributor. Original 061 distributor is included but mechanical advance is not returning properly. The air injection pump and plumbing are missing. Transaxle/Drivetrain: Original 4 speed has been upgraded to a five speed with a 911 mount. Transaxle was cleaned, inspected, completely resealed and refilled with Redline gear oil. Clutch was inspected and appears to have been replaced at the same time as the engine rebuild. Gland nut was replaced. CV joints were cleaned, inspected and repacked. CV boots were replaced. All shift bushings were replaced. Fuel system: Fuel tank was boiled out and plastic lined. Original Solex carburetors and fuel pump were rebuilt. All hoses, filters, and linkage bushings were replaced. All linkage was replated. Suspension; All components were removed and either painted or powder coated. All hardware was replated. Ball joints, outer tie rod ends and all bushings were replaced. Adjustable Koni front strut inserts and Bilstein Sport rear shocks were installed. Car was lowered to a reasonable height and four wheel aligned. Wheels and tires: Four correct 1968 5 1/2 x 15" Fuchs wheels restored by Weidman's Wheels. Spare wheel is 3/68 date coded steel wheel. Five new Dunlop SP Sport 5000 195/65-15 tires installed. Braking system: New master cylinder, Jurid front and rear pads and hoses. Front and rear rotors resurfaced. Front and rear calipers rebuilt. Pipes, caliper halves and hardware were all replated. System bled and refilled with DOT4 brake fluid. Body: Rust free, original paint CA car. Completely dis-assembled and repainted in correct Bahama Yellow. All new deco trim on bumpers and rocker panels. Most weatherstripping and seals replaced. New bumper guard impact rubbers and door strikers. Bumper guards, headlight rings, horn grilles and Amco bar were replated. Plastic inserts on headlight rings were replaced. Original front and rear light assemblies are in excellent condition. Glass is very good original except for windshield which has been replaced. All strikers, latches and hardware were replated. Bumper brackets and supports were powder coated. Engine compartment sound insulation (all three pieces!) was replaced. Interior: Very good original condition! Only the dashboard upholstery has been redone. Dash pad was restored by Just Dashes in Van Nuys, CA. Correct '68 door panels are in great shape with good door pockets and NO speaker holes! Car has a near-mint original factory wood steering wheel. Still has the original radio although it's not working currently. Speaker was replaced while dash was out. Sun visors and headliner are in good shape but headliner has the usual glue stains around the edges. Has very good original rubber floor mats, not carpets. I've driven the car about 1200 miles since finishing the restoration. It runs and drives very well and is fully sorted. I would not hesitate to hop in this car and drive it anywhere! I don't believe in garage queens! I hate to sell it but.... Well, life happens, right? Good luck and happy bidding!
