Vehicle Detail
Owned by a school teacher since 1978. She got is as a gift from the original owner whom she was seeing at the time. When I heard that I thought to myself if this can be any more cliché than that? Truth is, the car was a two owner car when I came across of it. The car was repainted few years ago and had a tune up in 2009. Car was nice, clean, freshly painted and the interior looks like it is few years old as well. The car turns on a dime and is one of the best RUNNING 280SL I have driven. The engine was rebuilt in 1996 and it is strong as it can be. Automatic transmission shifts smoothly and makes it a lot of fun to drive. The vehicle starts runs and drives well; it could easily be used as a daily driver. Tires are new with about 100-150 miles on them. Nice, presentable every-day driver that does not need any work in order to be enjoyed immediately. Car has no problem developing high speeds and tires are not pulling in any direction. The car can be exported, transferred and registered in any state. Now here are some highlights: · Rebuilt engine with about 25,000 miles on it (1996). · Beautiful color combo White with Ox-Blood Red interior. · Fuel injectors were cleaned by us. · The power steering pump is nice and strong, no squeaks. · Fuel pump has been rebuilt with new seals and gaskets by us. · New seats 2007. · New soft top was put on in 1997 and was never used. It is older but in nice shape and it certainly does the job. · For the most part, rust-free. Little bit of rust repair in the trunk and some on the floor boards in the front is the only rust I have found. (Please see pictures). · NEW paint in 2006 (Original color code 050G White). · Matching numbers on car chassis, engine, transmission, paint (color code). · Hood, hardtop and horseshoe have matching numbers as well. · Color Code on data card is 050G · Production number 3885. · The car runs and drives beautifully. (Had no problem going 90MPH-(150KM) I could have gone faster but speed limit was only 60MPH :-) · Windows roll up and down smoothly. · All lights work. · Horn, turn signals everything works as it should. · ALL Chrome looks great. · All hoses and belts are in great shape not dried out like you would expect. · Service is up to date. Values. Please do not inquire about the reserve. It is more than reasonable and far less than what experts say it is worth. This is not a rotisserie restoration, but just a great car that looks and drives great. This is car values according to the experts. Please click on the NADA link below to see the values. After you see the values than you be the judge of what condition is the car is considered to be in. 11/9/2011 Collectible Car 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL 2 Door Coupe/Roadster 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL 2 Door Coupe/Roadster NADAguides.com Price Report Original MSRP Low Retail Average Retail Value High Retail Base Price $7,224 $27,800 $40,200 $85,700 Options SL Models Removable Hardtop 10% 10% 10% TOTAL PRICE $30,180 $44,120 $93,570 For all new enthusiasts that would like to learn some things about these cars, this is a great link with historical facts, specifications and technical data.
