Vehicle Detail

General: Classic convertible in need of restoration. I've owned the car for about 25 years. I bought it after a repaint and a light restoration from a friend who worked restoring cars. He is a Ford guy and made a couple changes in the car; Namely, the shaker and AC. He owned the car for a 2-3 years. I don't know about it's history before that 1983-5. I have a Marti report ordered that is due 11/9/2011. I'll post the results when I get them. As far as I know, there are no other changes to the car. Changes: 1. Shaker scoop is not original. It came with a Torino GT hood. The shaker setup was from a 1970-71 Torino, but I'm not sure which year. 2. Not a factory AC. AC came from another 1970 Torino. 3. Not sure if the Style Steel wheels are original (forgot to ask). Everything is "correct" for the car, as far as matching how the car would appear in its era. Here is the breakdown on the VIN: 0 - 1970 H - Built in Lorain Ohio 37 - Torino GT Convertible N - 429-4v "Thunder Jet"100116 - Serial Number The decode information is here: http://www.torinocobra.com/torino_vin_70.htmThus this is a "Thunder Jet" 429-4v 360HP engine. The car is quite rare and valuable. The rear end is a 31 spline traction control 3.50. As far as I know, this is original (the Marti report will determine for sure). Known Defects: 1. Needs paint. Has a few minor rust spots. The underbody and frame are almost clear of rust. 2. Needs interior. 3. Cracks in grill. 4. Needs new top, but I am including a replacemnt. 5. There is a cracked cast piece on the driver side of the top. Might be able to bond this somehow, but probably needs to be replaced. The top mechanics is also slow and should be lubricated at the very least. Used to blow a lot of top fuses. 6. Rear view mirror needs to be reglued. 7. No seat bealts. 8. The transmission shifts hard and has had a tendency to leak fluid. 9. About 20 years ago, I had the engine rebuilt and had sleeves put in the block (I got some cylinder wall rust while having the heads done). Although it has been a long time, the engine only has about 15,000 miles since the rebuild. I posted on Google Docs here: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0BwHtwMJmIzIsYWJlMjkwNTEtNjY5My00NDJmLWJhNjMtZjY3MTNlZmRmNDFi&hl=en_US If the link doesn't work, here is a cut and paste:---Thank you for your interest in our services. Kevin Marti--- What was learned: 1. Since I don't see the style steel wheels there, I assume that those were added afterwards. They were a dealer option. 2. The rear axle was the desirable traction control model, but the ratio was/is 3.00 rather than 3.50. I suspect that the original is still in the car and I just thought that it was 3.5 ratio. If anyone knows an easy way to check please email me.3. The car is supposed to have the Body Side Stripe. That is not installed.4. Everything else is correct (i.e. color, interior, top buckets). Well, I don't have the original radio.
