Vehicle Detail
1976 Jeep CJ5 - Durham, NC Kid needs braces - must sell Jeep! My Jeep has always been completely reliable for me. In the last couple of years I've put in new brakes all around, a new rear seat, and a new safari top. I drive it year round and I love it. The VIN is J6F83AE076420. Here's what that VIN tells us: Year: 1976 Plant / Transmission: Toledo, 3-speed, Left Hand Drive Model: JEEP, CJ-5, 84 inch Wheelbase Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) Rating: 3750 lbs GVW Engine: 6 Cyl, 232 CID, 100 HP Model Year: 1976 The transfer case has four high, four low, neutral, and two high. It has a full roll-cage (not a "show" cage - a real, properly braced heavy duty one). Everything works except: the horn is occasionally intermittent - probably dirty contacts somewhere, the speedometer needle never reads as high as you're really going (the odometer does work), and the ignition key doesn't turn the electrical system off all the way - hence the "secret" switch under the steering column. That actually ends up being a great security device - if you don't turn the switch you can't start it! The CB radio does not turn on. Might be a fuse; it was in there when I bought the Jeep and I've never bothered with it. There are no fluid leaks (what you see under the Jeep in the pictures is some morning dew condensation that dripped off the back - I repositioned the Jeep a bit before taking the pictures). The battery tray is built for two batteries (for very serious off-roading). In normal use it only needs one battery, so I keep a small tool box with the essentials in the open space. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like to test drive it. Thanks for looking! Please click the thumbnail pictures below to see very large versions for detail!
