Vehicle Detail
1956 Chevrolet 2 door sedan for sale. Vehicle has been in barn storage since 1975 and is being listed for sale since I am also restoring 4 other cars and Father-Time is marching on. Car isn't perfect and has its fair share of surface rust and some obvious damage (see door picture.) I tried to insert a good mixture of pictures to show how the car really is. Some pictures in Ebay listings don't seem to show much at all and I don't want any surprises for the buyer of this car. Please be sure and note the damaged right door (door is bad but the car body {see sill picture} does not appear to be bent at all) and door skins are available. The broken window regulator goes easily up and down. Please note the fact that I removed the front bumper to tow the car in 1975. Since then, the bumper brackets were lost but the bumper's 3 pieces are there along with one guard. Drive shaft was removed when I bought the car to help with towing. Has not been reinstalled but is still with the car. When I bought this car, it had a non-working automatic transmission, hence the "spare" transmission in the trunk. I never did a thing to fix the transmission or to check the one in the trunk. The spare transmission goes with the car and I assume it is the correct one- no guarantee. It is fairly surprising that this car is as complete as it is- no cutting, no engine change that I know of and no other obvious modifications. I just put it away in a barn and forgot it until I figured it now is time to downsize. I have the valid Illinois title and a working key that turns the ignition, the driver's door and opens the trunk. The six cylinder engine seems to be all there as far as I know (see pictures)- has not been turned over since I bought the car in 1975, but I did recently pour some oil into each cylinder. The wheels are original and the car will roll, the stainless is in good shape, the windows have some scratches and rubs but are okay except the right passenger which is smashed. Car has its share of dings and dents (left front fender has some ripples that are hard to see in the pictures) but car isn't too bad considering it is 55 years old. I'll try to answer all questions or provide requested pictures. Winning bidder must send me $500 down-payment by Paypal (non-refundable) within 48 hours of auction end. Full remaining amount due by cashier's check or cash-in-hand within 7 days of auction-end or car will be re-listed and deposit kept. Buyer is responsible for pickup of car and must make arrangements to pick up car within two weeks of sale. I will do anything I can to help the car's buyer with pickup. Car doesn't leave until payment has cleared and I will deal only with the buyer. Be sure you want it when you bid. I've had to deal with bidder/buyer remorse and don't want to deal with that problem again. If anyone has a question, feel free to call me (Tom) at 1-217-473-6959 (8:30 AM thru 9:00 PM daily.) Thanks for looking and "Happy Bidding." On Oct-31-11 at 19:02:09 PDT, seller added the following information: I've had some questions and calls about the car's condition. Please be sure sure to note that car has some rust holes as shown in pictures. Right fender cap is also rusty like the left. Sills are good and not dented. I have not found any rust-through in the floor but I have not removed the floor covering. Small rust at the bottom of each front fender. Questions ??? Feel free to ask and thanks a lot for looking and bidding. October 31, 2011 On Oct-31-11 at 19:41:11 PDT, seller added the following information: Correction: I wrote in an answer to a question that "driver side fender cap was also rusted." Should be noted as "passenger side."
