Vehicle Detail
Offered for auction is our 1988 Cimarron by Cadillac. Arguably this is one of the most famous Cadillacs ever made! Built to compete with smaller European cars in the 80’s, the Cimarron was Cadillac’s first attempt at a small, more-efficient car. Not exactly Cadillac’s area of expertise at the time. It wasn’t considered much of a success but today it remains one of the most memorable Cads produced. 1988 was the final year of production and as such Cadillac loaded the cars with most every feature in the book! This particular car was purchased new in Southern California and was driven and lovingly cared for by the original owner until 2010. I bought the car in early 2011 and repaired a few items and recently got back from an enjoyable 1,000 mile trip in the car. I’ve been impressed with how the car has been cared for. INTERIORThe interior is in terrific shape right down to the Cimarron logo embroidered on the leather seats, the original gold keys, carpeted floor mats and rubber trunk mat. The optional digital dash and all the accessories work as they should including the cruise control, fog lights and perhaps most importantly the ice-cold air conditioner. The audio in the car is the Symphony Sound System by Delco/Bose and sounds great and it plays cassettes if you still have them. Only the power antenna will need some attention as it doesn’t go up and down EXTERIOROutside the car sports accessories that set it apart from the rest. Items added are the special grill, gold emblems including a stand-up hood ornament and the simulated convertible top treatment – all of which I believe was a package installed by Thomas Cadillac in Los Angeles. The car retains most of its original Glacier Blue paint. The man I bought the car from repaired some minor front end damage and painted the nose and hood. The color match is good but the quality of the repaint finish is not great. Fortunately the original pinstripes were not painted over. I will include a like-new original-style grill and front Cimarron emblem if you should decide to change the car back to a more stock look. The original paint on the trunk-lid is faded a bit. The car was literally owned by an older couple in Palm Desert, CA. I have not found any rust on the car and it must have been kept in a garage because plastics and rubber are also in good shape! MECHANICAL The 1988 Cimarron has a 2.8 liter Multi-Port Fuel Injected V-6 engine and front wheel drive. The car runs strong and I got 24 MPG on the freeway on my recent trip and has just over 65,000 original miles. Some of the work I did on the car included: Flushed the fuel tank, replacing the fuel pump, strainer and filter Changed oil and filter Replaced air filter Installed new plug wires Installed automatic transmission kit including filter and replaced the fluid Replaced three fuel injectors Replaced front and rear motor mounts Replaced the AC accumulator, flushed and charged the system Car passed California smog Tires are in good shape I have been unable to fix the sun visors that will not stay up. STANDARD FEATURES for ‘88 Cimarron Leather seats (dark navy) Power door locks, windows and mirrors Cruise control Power driver and front passenger’s seats Leather-trimmed steering wheel with tilt Alloy-wheels ADDED COST OPTIONS for this ’88 Cimarron Full-digital instrument cluster Automatic transmission Symphony Sound System (Delco/Bose) signal seeking stereo with 5-band equalizer and cassette Twilight sentinel Carpeted floor mats Door edge guards Illuminated vanity mirrors This is a great opportunity to own a small part of Cadillac history for your collection or just purchase a nice little car for daily use. Whichever suits you, I think you will be delighted by this car and the attention you’ll get driving it. I simply don’t have the room for it anymore and it is time for the next owner to enjoy it. You don’t see many around anymore and certainly not in this condition. That said, this is not a modern Cadillac, it is more than 20 years old and let’s face it General Motors cars in the 80’s were not known for stellar quality. This one has stood the test of time but you are buying a used car with no warranty. It is offered as is. It is a 20+ year old car and by no means in perfect shape. It has nicks, scratches, fading and imperfections one would expect on a car of this age. I have tried my best to describe the car accurately and honestly. Please resolve any questions or ask for additional photos before the end of the auction.
