Vehicle Detail
1976 CB 550K Restored : I purchased this bike in 2005 from the second owner - he purchased from first owner around 1980. The second owner used it until the spring of 1984 when it became disabled due to a charging system problem. It was then parked in a single car garage in Richfield Mn. from 1984-2005 when I purchased it. In the spring of 2005 I went through all of the mechanical, brakes, tires, carbs, patched the holes in the exhaust with J.B weld, etc. I did everything to make it safe and reliable. It had around 13000 miles at that time and I began daily driving it to work and enjoyed the 50+ mpg during the summers of 2005-2007 racking up another 12,000 miles on her. It was fun to ride and still looked pretty good considering the down time it had endured. During this period I really began getting into these vintage Hondas. January of 2008 - I made the decision to take her out of daily service and restore to it's former glory. The following is a detailed description of what was done.... (Frame); The frame was sandblasted and powder coated along with the swing arm - center stand - triple tree lower - motor mounts - side stand along with various other bits and pieces. (Engine): While the engine was out of the frame, the barrels were removed, pistons and cylinders inspected and no noticable wear was evident. The cam chain tensioner was in excellent condition as was the cam and rocker assembly. The oil pan was removed and cleaned - transmission gears were inspected and all was in order. The entire assembly was then re-gasket / o-ringed - put back together and painted with case coat engine paint. (Electrics); The wiring harness was removed - connections cleaned - harness itself cleaned - all electrics, switches, indicators, lights, charging, and horn work as intended. It is equipped with a turn signal buzzer and it does work but is currently disconnected simply because of how annoying it is to listen to. (Tires); Tires are modern Dunlop 404s front and rear - new tubes and rimstrips were installed at time of restoration. (Fuel): Gastank was cleaned and coated by Gastank ReNu, petcock was rebuilt as well as the carbs at the time of restoration. The carbs are synced and in a very good state of tune - she starts easily and runs/idles as intended. (Seat); The seat is original and un-restored. It does show wear from the 35 years of use, the vinal cover has had some repair from seperation. It does show well and is not unsightly. The seat would have been replaced at restoration but none new are available. I did buy and aftermarket seat cover that I will include in the sale but it does not look exacly like the stock one. (Chrome); The wheels were dissasembled / spokes removed and cleaned - the chrome is very good but there is a couple of very small rust spots on the rear wheel. Fenders and fork ears are also in nice surviving condition so they were cleaned and reused - some super minor petina can be noticed on some of these parts. (Paint); The paint is a base coat / clear coat modern automotive type - an exact template of the original tank stripes was made and then were copied in paint - none of the stripes are decals - no one can believe it and assume they are stickers. All of the warning and mechanical decals are in there proper places and present. (Exhaust); Brand new Honda 4 into 4 exhaust system was installed at time of restoration. Deposit of $250.00 U.S. PayPal non-refundable due within 48 hours of auction end. Full payment Cash in person - Cashiers check due within 7 days. The bike will move until payment has cleared the bank. Shipping; Local pickup or BUYER arranges all shipping - shipping is NOT included in the final bid price. I will assist as possible with direction from buyer with their shipping source. BUYER is responsible for all shipping charges. No Warranty - No returns accepted . (Awards) After the restoration in 2008 the bike was entered in the Local VJMC show - it won "Best Restoration" also that year it won best in show at a local motorcycle dealership.
