Vehicle Detail
Honda CB900C Custom You are bidding on a 1981 Honda CB900C 'Custom' motorcycle. The bike is in good, mechanically sound condition with only 16,000 miles; I am the second owner and put about half of those on myself. She shines up beautifully, starts every time, and runs smoothly on both quick trips around town and longer-haul cruises. Cosmetically, the tank is in great shape with no dents or major scratches, the original side panels have a great luster (although one minor crack which has been repaired), the original seat is undamaged, and the engine components--while they do show their age--have no significant damage. I would not be selling this motorcycle if I were not moving with no way to take her with me. It will be a shame to see her go, but my loss is your gain. The ’81 CB900C features a dual-range, ten speed transmission with five high gears and five low for either highly efficient highway cruising or a sportier feel for those winding mountain passes and country back roads. The final drive is a shaft, requiring only periodic fluid changes for maintenance. The powerful 902cc engine propels the bike swiftly and effortlessly with minimal vibration, preserving the silky smooth ride provided by the easily adjusted air-ride suspension. She is fast, comfortable, and a true pleasure to ride. This bike is equipped with an original dealer-installed luggage rack that adds functionality without detracting from her sleek look and classic lines. The tires were new as of May 2009, the battery replaced at the beginning of last season (June 2010), and I have changed the oil every 3000 miles. I had the carbs professionally cleaned pre-season this year (May 2011). She is ready for another seasonal tune-up, but I will leave that for you or your own trusted mechanic. Everything works, including lights, horn, kick- and center-stands, gauges, etc. The brakes are strong, although a little squeaky. Like many of the CB900s of this era, she leaks a little oil but has since I’ve owned her and it has never been a problem. The CB900C has become an icon in the motorcycle world, bridging the gap between a fast and fun sport-cruiser and a comfortable extended range tourer. A true classic, I get compliments on this bike everywhere I go from motorcycle enthusiasts to non-bikers and kids who can recognize style when they see it. You can expect many more miles of great service from this Honda, although she is of course sold as-is with no warranty. I will include with the sale a new Nelson Rigg all-weather cover, a practically unused HJC helmet, and the Clymer shop manual for this model. Also included are a clean title, the original owner’s manual, original bill of sale from 1981, and the factory tool kit which is housed under the side cover. I will post more pictures this week. The bike will be available for viewing in Boulder starting on Tuesday (10/11/11) after 4pm during the week, with more flexible timing on Saturday and Sunday. Do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions, or to schedule a time to meet and see the bike. Cash payment only.Thank you for looking, happy bidding.Joe732-861-6485
