Vehicle Detail

I have decided to sell my fully restored – numbers matching 1956 BMW R60. The Award Winning restoration was recently finished with no expense spared. At the heart of this machine is a New Old Stock Crankshaft assembly. That’s right – an NOS crank. All of the cases were cleaned out and bead-blasted to refresh the factory surface. Then new gaskets, bearings and seals were installed throughout. All mechanicals were rebuilt to meet or exceed factory specs. The frame was shipped to Vern at GT Enterprises to check for straight and true, and to make whatever adjustments were required. The sheet-metal parts were all carefully bead-blasted to bare metal, and made straight by a Professional Paint and Body shop before the many coats of Top Quality – Single Stage Black were applied and polished to a mirror shine. Pin stripes were professionally applied by hand on top of the paint by a well known artist. Original optional Weinmann aluminum rims were made straight and polished by Buchannan’s Spoke and Rim. Then they were laced and trued to BMW specifications. A pair of new and correct Metzeler 3.50 – 18 Block C Tires were then installed and balanced using vintage style spoke weights. Wheel hubs were blasted and treated to new bearings, then set up with the correct bearing gap to ensure long life. The machine was assembled using re-plated hardware with the correct markings, and new reproduction rubber parts. A new top quality wiring harness was installed and all electrics operate as new – perfect. This is the first year of production for the BMW R60 – and this is the 66th one made. These 1955-1956 Twins have many unique features that make them stand out from the later versions – Here are a few: No heavy brace on the front fender, Chrome front shock mounting bolts, Headlight bucket is dished on the underside, heavy use of black hardware throughout, Early ‘Plunger’ style horn and air cleaner, smaller – square shaped battery and mounting tray, knurled thumb screw on engine breather cover, Ball Bearing timing marks on the flywheel, Sidecar (non-‘S’ marked) transmission, short rear brake actuating lever, small Eber taillight and a flat license plate bracket. I’m sure there are others – I could go on and on about the restoration of this bike, but others have spoken as well. This motorcycle was recently award “Best Restored Motorcycle” at the 36th Annual El Camino Classic Motorcycle Show. It was entered into competition with nearly 100 other vintage motorcycles including a Vincent Black Shadow, and came away with this top award. I am selling to fund the restoration of my 1956 R69. Have a look at the pictures and feel free to ask questions. I am including a link to the picture that was taken at the El Camino event. http://lydiatolman.zenfolio.com/elcamino11/e3646ef9c On Oct-03-11 at 22:31:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Clear California Title in hand - thanks for asking.
