Beautiful restoration!... 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 VIN No. 0T02G121020 Engine No. D1ZE-6015 Under the direction of former GM vice-president “Bunkie” Knudsen, the Mustang was available in a variety of performance models in 1969. One of the hottest of the newest renditions was the Boss 302. Knudsen hired former GM designer Larry Shinoda who set about creating the race track inspired Boss 302 in fastback – or as Ford called it, SportsRoof guise. After testing the Mustang 302, Hot Rod Magazine felt this latest Ford performance model was equal to or better than “most of the world’s big-engined muscle cars.” The 302 V8 featured special cylinder heads with canted intake and exhaust valves that allowed for bigger ports and valves. A new head also allowed for a straighter-flowing fuel and air mixture for improved volumetric efficiency. Overall, the advanced wedge design was similar to that found on Ford’s 427 racing engine which resulted in a “semi-Hemi” moniker. This Car: Offered here is a prime example of a true driver’s Boss 302, complete in Calypso Coral paint over white vinyl upholstery. According to the vehicle’s Marti Report and original window sticker, the car was completed on October 27, 1969 and delivered new to Crowell Motor Co Inc. in South Boston, VA. As an authentic Boss 302, standard equipment included “Hi-Back” vinyl bucket seats, a four-speed transmission, power front disc brakes, color keyed racing mirrors and carpets, space saver spare tire, quick ratio steering, competition suspension, a functional front spoiler and special instruments and gauges. At extra charge, the car was also equipped with a rear deck spoiler, Traction-Lok differential, Shaker hood scoop, Sport Slats, AM radio, and Magnum 500 chrome wheels. An extensive amount of work and money has been invested into this Mustang since the previous owner’s purchase in 2005. The goal of the comprehensive restoration was to create the ultimate touring Boss, while preserving the original theme of the car. The current engine fitted in the Mustang is a Ford replacement block No.D1ZE-6015 mated to original heads. Its manifold No.C9FE9424 displays the “FIREING ORDER” typo. This car and its motor can be found in the Boss 302 Registry. A rebuild of the driveline and motor was completed in late 2005 resulting in a strong and reliable powerplant with over 360 hp & torque. Improvements and other additions include: Global West Complete coil-over system with tubular A-arms, double-adjust shocks and negative roll (road racing version). Front suspension was lowered to Shelby specs with over $3k in hardware alone. Shelby style wheels. Vintage Wheel Works 17x8 Vintage-50 ten-spoke aluminum rim, shod with BFG 245/45 R17 g-Force Sport ZR tires. Budnik black steering wheel (15.5”) mounted on Flaming River column, connected to a Chris Alston rack and Pinion steering system. Black anodized gas cap, Shelby seatbelt inserts, wide band AER air/fuel ratio gauge, Sun Tach on column, Hump cruiser console, and Dynamat throughout. Diamond pistons, Scorpion roller rockers, Eagle crankshaft, and other quality internal parts. Dealer installed oil cooler, MSD Ignition with Super Conductor wires, Holley 4150 Carb, aluminum radiator and driveline components, composite driveshaft, Magna-Flow stainless mufflers and more. Along with the spare and jack, a host of original documentation and accessories accompany the car such as the Marti Report, window sticker, Driver’s Manual, equipment, receipts, records, awards, and Hot Rod Magazine cameo! For Mustang enthusiasts, the Boss 302 is the quintessence of the breed, with handsome styling, balanced handling and high performance.
