Vehicle Detail
1932 Ford “Boydster II”Roadster Designed by Chip Foose · One of the Most Iconic Hot Rod Designs · Stunning Presentation · Exceptionally Well-Built Example Chassis No. 182494442 350 CID Chevrolet V8 Engine 4-Barrel Holley Carburetor Approximately 450 HP 3-Speed Automatic Transmission 4-Wheel Hydraulic Disk Brakes Independent Front and Rear Suspension The Boydster The late Custom car builder and Hot Rodding legend Boyd Coddington created some of the most famous custom cars in recent times. Named after its creator, the first Boydster was a 1932-34 Ford-inspired, fenderless Roadster that won the top award at the Oakland Roadster Show in 1996. It was followed shortly after by a more street-compatible, full-fendered version, the Boydster II. Chip Foose penned its smooth lines while he was working with Coddington. The Boydster I and II were offered as rolling-chassis projects, suitable for enthusiasts and Hot Rodders who didn’t have the abilities or tools to construct one from scratch. The purchaser could “spec out” the power train, interior and other details, and then complete the car with his or her own resources. This Car The Boydster II offered here wears stunning black and green fiberglass bodywork and is believed to have been one of the first sold. It exemplifies how these Boydsters could be personalized with, for example, its stepped-and-widened fenders and running boards that can accommodate 20” x 10” wide wheels and a hand-stitched interior trimmed in black leather that is tastefully accented by a Coddington-designed steering wheel and gauges. Fed by a four-barrel Holley carburetor, a Chevrolet small-block V-8 engine with aluminum heads powers this striking Hot Rod, and the custom chassis includes four-wheel independent suspension with disk brakes in all four corners. The car uses a Corvette differential and, of course, sports impressive Coddington wheels. Involving some of the greatest Hot Rod personalities in the field, the provenance of the Boydster II design ensures owning one will always be a special and memorable experience.
