Vehicle Detail

This classic Monte is a real head-turner! It runs great, and rides smooth. If you are looking for a solid, beautiful Monte that needs some work but has been pampered and protected, this is the car for you! I bought this 1970 (first year) Monte Carlo in Florida in 1997, and I am the third owner. It is an original Florida car from Jim Herrin Chevrolet in Clearwater (now Autoway Chevrolet, I believe). This vehicle has never been wrecked as far as I know, and has been garage kept since I've owned it. I drove it regularly until 2003. It has since been garaged, but I do start it up, back it into the driveway and let it run from time to time. It always fires right up. Immediately after I purchased it, I took the Monte to a very reputable body shop in St. Petersburg. There were two small rust spots behind the beauty strips on each quarter panel. The shop owners replaced both spots with solid steel (you can't tell where the old metal stops and the new metal starts), and then completely repainted the vehicle it's original color simply to freshen up the paint and protect the car. It was a labor of love, and took them several months to complete. This Monte has its original V8 350 small block Chevy engine, 2BBL carb, automatic transmission, and power steering/brakes. It only has 116,000 original miles (it had about 71,000 when I bought it). It has always run EXCELLENTLY for me, and sounds really sexy with the dual glass packs I added. I know the 454 SS is supposed to be superior, but I prefer the small block 350 - it's an awesome engine because it's easy to work on, very reliable, decent on gas (I used to get at least 14 mpg), yet still has plenty get-up-and-go. I never abused this car nor let anyone else drive it unless I was going along for the ride. I always treated it like my baby. I'm selling this Monte "as-is" and don't want the hassle of having to show it. Therefore, I'm listing all the imperfections I know about, but as with any used vehicle there may be others that I'm not aware of or have forgotten about: The plastic on the steering wheel (or the steering wheel itself) needs replaced. There is some rust inside the trunk from rain that came in through the drainage holes (I plugged the holes after discovering the rust and kept the trunk dry, but haven't had the money to properly repair it). There is no other rust that I'm aware of. The driver side fender has a light, barely-noticable scrape/dent from where I accidentally bumped into it one day while pulling my other car into the garage. The ashtray doesn't stay closed. There are a few small tears and stains in the carpet, upholstery and headliner (all there when I bought the car - I used a seat cover the entire time I drove it and was careful not to cause further wear and tear). There's a small bad spot in the plastic of the rear dash, presumably from water leaking in through the window (this was also there when I bought the car - I had all the seals replaced when I had it repainted). The clear coat paint is peeling in a few small spots. I had to remove one of the windshield wipers because it would stick, but I still have it. The driver side front tire has a slow leak. It leaks a little oil, but what I consider to be very normal for a parked car of this age. I have also made the following repairs and maintenance, but otherwise the car is original (again, to the best of my knowledge): 2011 - new battery 2003 - new ignition switch 2003 - transmission service (transmission is original) 2003 - new fuel pump 1999 - new brakes, new wheel cylinders, new ujoints 1999? - new master cylinder 1999 - new tires 1999 - new exhaust (dual glass packs) 1999 - new front shocks, upper ball joints, gear box, center link 1998 - new water pump 1998 - complete engine rebuild (engine is original) 1998? - new a/c compressor 1997 - passenger outside mirror (matches original) 1997 - body restoration w/steel (no bondo) & paint I have receipts for most of these. This Monte was my dream car, but it's time to let it go and sell it to someone who will give it a good home and possibly a life as a show car. Please email me with any questions.
