Vehicle Detail

1968 Oldsmobile 442/Cutlass Sport Coupe4-speed M21 Munciebench seatair conditioning Hello, you are bidding on a 1968 Oldsmobile 442/Cutlass. This car has had a frame-on restoration, had it’s entire drive train rebuilt, new wiring, new interior, replacement of parts that were missing, pretty much everything you can imagine. With less than 500 miles since the restoration has been completed, it drives awesome, looks great, and will make an incredible driver for someone looking to enjoy themselves on the open road. Plus, it’s an A/C car, so you can stay cool while doing so. A little explanation on the 442/Cutlass designation for a ’68. In fall of 2006, I purchased a number’s matching 1968 442 out of PA. It was an all original 4-speed, bench seat car, and retained it’s all original drive train (400 engine, M-21 Muncie transmission, original 3.42 rear, original Hurst 442 shifter). After having the car media blasted, I found out that the body was full of filler, including the roof. It was all ‘worm-holed’ and would have required every body panel and floor board to be replaced. It made no sense to do so, so I found a Cutlass S which had spent its life in New Mexico, and used the body. So, currently, the VIN and trim tag are what were found on the Cutlass S. I have retained my original VIN and trim tag from my 442, so there’s no chance you’re going to run into any issues down the road with this. Don’t believe in re-bodying a car, and it’s illegal to place a VIN tag on a different body anyhow. Now for the good stuff. I’ll just run a list of everything I can remember that has been rebuilt or replaced to make it easier for you to decipher. I might be missing a few minor things, but I do have a 3” stack of receipts totaling over $50K that people are free to look at if they want to come and view the car in person (anyone in the Phoenix, AZ area).DRIVE TRAIN & MECHANICALS completely rebuilt ’68 442 all numbers matching engine (head, intake, block). Blocked was magged, cleaned, and machined at .30 over. Hardened valve seats were installed in the heads to it’s good to run unleaded fuel. Lowered the compression slightly to about 9.8 so it runs without issue on 91 octane. And let me tell you, it runs fantastic. Sounds great, and is smooth as glass on the highway. You won’t be let down. I was told based on the engine wear that the original miles are 58,000, and not 158,000, which is what shows on the odometer. original numbers matching (to the engine--VIN stamp) Muncie M21 4-speed transmission. Was completely rebuilt and cleaned, and works also, smooth as you would hope. rebuilt by Hurst, original 442 Hurst 4-speed shifter. Shift arm also rechromed by Hurst. rearend completely rebuilt, with a Eaton posi installed (originally was a non-posi) car. Retains it’s original 3.42 gears. completely rebuilt correct Rochester Quadrajet carburetor brand new front, rear, and engine wiring harnesses brand new exact spec original style exhaust system from Gardner exhaust, including exhaust trumpets completely rebuild drum brakes, with new pads, drums, and wheel bearings completely rebuilt suspension with new springs & shocks, & control arm bushings completely rebuilt front end, including ball joints new 4 core radiator A/C. Has been completely tested. Compressor, condenser, new drier. New fan, new heater core. Currently, the fan and heater work great. Still needs 2 hoses to get the A/C up and running well. Each hose is $99. new starter new fuel sending unit new water pumpINTERIOR all new seat covers by Legendary Auto Interiors. Pattern is almost exact to original, unlike the PUI covers which are not nearly as nice for the ’68 442. all new front and rear door panels by Legendary Auto Interiors. I have duplicate passenger side door panel that Legendary sent me, as there was problems with the plastic chrome trim with the original ones they sent me. Will be included with the sale of the car. completely rebuilt speedometer reproduction tic-toc-tach and gauge kit from Fusick reproduction wood grain sport wheel rechromed 442 shift arm nice condition dash pad reconditioned original AM radio that now has an AUX jack for an iPod or satellite radio new rear speakers new headliner, package tray, sail panels new rearview mirror new armrest pads and chrome armrest backing plates new carpet. there’s a few minor issues with the carpet, as it was cut incorrectly in a few places. There’s nothing wrong with it per se, but I just wanted to note that there’s a cut near the rear seat that is visible. It might be fixed. If down the road you just wanted to replace the carpet, it’s a cheap and easy fix. Dynamat heat shield and sound deadener throughout the interior floor and firewall brand new correct reproduction Oldsmobile front and rear floor mats new dome light. works greatEXTERIOR single stage PPG Provincial White body with painted Black top, which is trim tag correct for the car. It is a nice color that has a very original looking paint job. I want to note there are several paint chips that need to be touched up thanks to a very, very careless shop owner who put my front end and doors back together. I was/am not happy about this but there is nothing I can do about it now. powder coated original Oldsmobile steel wheels. These are the original wheels that came on the Cutlass--all 5 including the spare match. 5 brand new reproduction Firestone Wide Oval bias-ply redline tires 5 reproduction dog dish hubcaps from Fusick. At the moment, I am having a hard time getting these caps to stay on the car while driving. I believe I have determined that Oldsmobile used a different rim for cars with dog dish caps. They had a ridge on the lip of the hub to keep the caps in place. So, for the time being, I am leaving them off the car for fear of damage. You can either try methods to get them to stay on, or find a new set of wheels at the parts yard for cheap that can keep the caps on. all stainless trim polished. it is not show quality as there are some scratches, but it does look nice. body work done: rear quarter panels replaced due to a few bad dents, rear window channel had a few places replaced due to rust. There was some repair to the trunk weatherstrip channel at one point. I believe it was fiberglassed in a few sections. You can’t see it, it doesn’t leak. Brand new windshield and seals. Rear window could use a bit of a polishing to get out surface/wind scratches. brand new Oldsmobile and 442 emblems new front grille new headlight bezels new headlight eyebrow trim new weatherstrippingWell, I think that covers all that I can remember. As I said, there are probably many small things that add up to a ton of money that I’m forgetting, but there’s no need to cover that here. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. What the car needs to be 100% completed: 2 hoses for the A/C unit the rectangle shaped cloth flex hose that runs from the driver's side vent under the dash to the heater/fan box under the dash (all cars from the 60’s have this style hosing--it’s cloth w/ wire) Should be an easy find, and not expensive. new temp sending unit. either I was sent the incorrect one with my tach kit, or the wrong one was put in, because it always pegs upon turning the car. I’ve had the electrical checked, and it isn’t an electrical ground issue. It’s just a bad temp sending unit. Again, should be a cheap and easy fix. single stage PPG provincial white touch up paint. A touch up bottle is not expensive. Again, very easy. 2-prong door jam switch on driver's side for dome light operation. Should be an easy find. Well, I think that’s everything. Again, anyone has any questions, message me. You can leave me your phone number and a good time to call (in the evenings for me), and I’ll get back to you either via message or on the phone. If anyone nearby in the Phoenix area wants to come see the car, take it for a drive, feel free to call me and we can set up a time after work to do so.I have tried to disclose everything, and to be open and honest as possible here. This is not a show car. It’s a GREAT driver, that is as original as possible (my intention), to go out in and have fun. I am going to lose a ton of money on this car. I hate to sell it, but I’ve run out of time and money to work on it and have to move on, so hopefully it will go to a good home. PAYMENT $1000 deposit due via Paypal within 24 hours of auction end.
