Vehicle Detail
I offer for sale my 1983 GTV-6. I purchased this car from the original owner in June of 1993. My idea at the time was I needed a dependable car for everyday use as well as 4 hour drives to the beach. My current 1978 Sprint Veloce’ was built up for back road racing and was not very comfortable, and my beloved 1987 Milano Verde’ was going to spend the rest of its life with my soon to be ex-wife. I had 10K to spend and still could not find anything I liked when I came across this 83 GTV-6, it had low miles, was told no rust, and looked to be in good shape. The purchase price would leave me enough to do over anything it needed, so I thought. I proceeded to totally redo the car. After getting the car home and driving it for a while the problems came out. The car had no visible rust but was held together by the undercoating and paint, and second gear was gone. I spent the next 18 months and the better part of 8K dollars and countless hours going over everything. The 78 was sold to rebuild the transaxle with a new Milano clutch and synchros all around, prop shaft doughnuts, shocks, tires, brakes, whatever it needed it got. Then came the body: the car was stripped of paint using plastic beads so the glass did not have to come out and new metal was welded into the pan and rockers. The car was then painted a nice dark blue with a clear coat. The car eventually became exactly what it was supposed to be and was the most dependable and fun to drive car I ever owned until the summer of 2000 when I moved to a new city across the state and was not going to have off street parking for it. I pulled it into a garage, covered it, jacked it up and disconnected the battery. It stayed like this until 2005 when I lost my storage, I had it towed to the garage for a tune up, fluid drain and state inspection, my mechanic,(same one from earlier) said it did not look like it had sat and never looked better. I drove it home the 250 miles incident free however I noticed that the inspection sticker had not been replaced, The mechanic said I now live where emissions is tested he did not do that, so no new sticker was not put on, the car however did pass the safety inspection, I have the receipt and this is why the sticker has not changed from 2000. The car would be driven sparingly and would be stored 50% of the time in a garage until the summer of 07 when I moved home again driving it the 250 miles back home. Unfortunately it has been outside and not running since then, it is showing signs of this in the form of surface rust and paint bubbles on the window frame, hood, passenger door, and the tires are no longer safe. I have shown this in the pictures. A tree branch fell on it last year and took off the mirror but no other door damage was done. The interior is complete and everything worked at last operation. It does have rips in the driver’s seat and sun damage to the top of the rear seats and the normal cracks at the defroster vents. I had wanted to get it up and running again but along came two kids 13 months apart and a case of severe positional vertigo that still has me feeling “funny” when driving three years later. This is the main reason for the sale, being able to throw this car into a curve full throttle in third gear is something that I lived for and I will probably never feel that connection to the road again. Sorry, the spoiler is not included in the sales price. I will included some extra parts; the original wheels, an extra plenum, and a top of the line (at the time 12/95) custom fit Beverly hills’ car cover as well as all the paper work I have saved, The mileage is off by approximately 8K miles, this car originally came with a 85MPH speedometer and the original owner changed it as soon as he could. Current odometer reading is less then 90K and the pics tell the rest. Please contact me with any questions I love this car and will gladly talk about it. Sorry, the spoiler is not included in the sales price, it came from a 1978 Velocissima special edition car that I had parted out in the late 80’s. I will of course think about offers for the spoiler but it was one of 75, and it will not come cheap. I will take offers for it.
