Vehicle Detail
Fully restored matching numbers 1960 BMW R50. I am the 3rd owner of this bike. It is my understanding that the bike was originally purchased by a fireman in Dallas who subsequently sold it to another Dallas resident who used it until 1974 when the bike was put into storage (with 43,000 miles). His son pulled the bike out of storage in 2007 and the full restoration was completed in 2008. This bike was restored by Perry Bushong, the owner of Perry's Motorcycles in Fort Worth, Texas (known as one of the best BMW motorcycle restorers in the country). This bike has had over $15,000 worth of work done in the past 4 years to bring it to the condition you see here. The engine and transmission were both fully rebuilt. In the course of rebuilding the bike, the motor was bored out to 600cc, so the performance of the bike is comparable to an R60. This bike starts right up, runs flawlessly, shifts smoothly and needs nothing. Everything works. No leaks. The speedometer was rebuilt and reset upon restoration, and currently shows 462 miles. Bike was fully resprayed and hand pinstriped when it was restored. The paint shows well as is evidenced by the photos, but there are minor imperfections here and there, and there are a few small chips (that I've touched up) on the rear fender under the rack (so not really that visible), and around the top edge of the glovebox on the driver's side of the gas tank. Included with the bike are a brand new Denfeld rear saddle passenger seat that bolts to the rear fender rack and a full large bench seat that was fully rebuilt during the restoration (these items alone would cost the better part of $1,000 if purchased separately). If you're wondering whether this bike is a good deal at this price, consider the rule of 7 that many BMW experts apply when estimating what it would cost to duplicate the restoration of these bikes: $7,000 for an actual matching numbers project bike, $7,000 for the mechanical restoration, and $7,000 for the cosmetic items, for a total of $21,000. Reason I'm selling? I've ended up with several motorcycles in my garage that I'm just not riding, so it's time to pass this one along to a new owner who can enjoy it. Bike is sold "As Is." Clear Texas title is in hand.
