Vehicle Detail

Up for auction here is one of two MK1 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI's that I'm selling. Reason for selling both is that I no longer have an economical & practical winter storage solution for these, and they're too solid to let sit outside and rot during the winter. With 5 cars, the garage gets too difficult to get cars into and out of. These are my 2nd and 3rd '83 GTI's that I've owned, the first being a Mars Red that I owned for 8 years. I know these about like the back of my hand, so if you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'll start off with the most subjective line of the auction: black really IS the best color for MK1 GTi's. Overall: This is an all-options car that's a solid runner, has a few mechanical things that need attention, some cosmetic blems, but makes a highly enjoyable runaround car. Exterior: Good chance this is an original paint car based on consistent appearance across car and no evidence on door jambs, etc. There is the anti-rock chip effect to the paint on the bottom edge of the car. I can't recall my red '83 having this, so I'm not sure if that's factory paint or not. The mirrors, rocker panel trim strips, exterior mirror housings and fender flares were all painted black at some point, and only average quality job on that. Has some blems on the doors and hatch that I've tried to capture in photos. Driver door has 3 dings, passenger has some pock marks and an odd repainted scratch. All original badging, and all in correct locations (drives me nuts seeing original cars with relocated/ill-located badges).Key does not operate rear hatch lock Mechanical Car has a few power upgrades including cam and header. I do not know spec on the cam. Car did not want to idle when I bought it, so adjustments were made to idle screw on throttle body, and the hex mixture screw on the fuel distributor. Still doesn't like to idle, so you have to blip throttle at stop signs. Above 1500 it runs like a champ, cruises down interstate smoothly and effortlessly.Car tracks straight and true.Brakes work fine, no shimmy, solid pedal.A/C compressor and condenser removed (see pics)Needs an exhaust bracket. Interior Overall in pretty good shapeMissing piece of cloth on passenger seat.Cut on side of seat (passenger seat back retrofitted into driver side seat)Car is missing radioAccordian style shift boot is tornHeadliner is worn on sunroof, otherwise sunroof works great.Questions, use the Ask Seller Question button and I'll send my phone number/contact details. No reserve! Bid to win, and check my feedback. I've sold over 15 cars on ebay and never had a negative feedback on cars or anything else. On Sep-06-11 at 15:41:25 PDT, seller added the following information:Important update: My apologies for leaving a detail off my list! This car's 2nd gear synchro is worn a bit. I shift it a a normal pace and have no problems, but if you are a gear banger you'll want to be aware of this. I'll also be adding pictures to the online album as requests come in. Pictures speak a thousand words, as they say, so send questions EARLY so I can post to the album. http://s289.photobucket.com/albums/ll213/bdhigs/auctions/ Regards, BryanOn Sep-06-11 at 21:45:58 PDT, seller added the following information: Had a few questions on scratches, etc. There are rock chips along the front edge of the hood, and the trim piece that goes between bumper and grill has lots of fine chips. For whatever reason, my camera doesn't show these well... the photo from above the hood makes it look glossy (which it really is) and chip-free (which it's not). For those who've asked about storage and why that's enough for me to sell these ... I don't think it's worth $500/season for the rental garage space for a pair of Rabbits. My historical option was free and had no mice -- that option has since dried up.
