1988 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Hardtop, LB9 TPI V8, T-5 manual transmission, G92, G80, KC4, J65 Southern California car, Clean title Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Optioned about as aggressively as possible this side of a 1LE: 5.0 H.O. V8 (RPO code: LB9) - T-5 manual transmission - 16-inch wheels and tires (RPO code: QDZ) - 4-wheel disc brakes (rear disc brake option, RPO code: J65) - Performance rear axle (RPO code: G80) - Limited Slip differential (RPO code: G92) - Engine oil cooler (RPO code: KC4) - Rare Delco-Bose stereo option Please scroll down for pictures and info. I would be willing to meet an out-of-town buyer at LAX or any other LA-area airport. I've owned this car for over five years. I searched for several months for a hardtop IROC 5-speed with the G92 and G80 options before finally finding this one in San Diego. I really enjoy this car, but have decided to part with it to generate funds for some home repairs. This car has a clean title. I have not found any evidence of accident damage. Below are pictures with descriptions immediately following them. Headlights, parking lots, fog lights, brake lights and turn signals work properly. Similar angle at night. Picture of RPO code tag in glovebox: This is a rare hard-top G92 (Borg-Warner 3.45 rear axle), IROC with the G80 limited-slip, LB9 TPI V8 (220hp, 290ft-lbs of torque), 4-wheel disc brakes, engine oil cooler, 16-inch wheels and tires, Delco-Bose stereo system, etc. It's a clean, straight car that runs strong and handles well. Other than what I beleive to be a Firebird steering column swapped in, the only aftermarket equipment that I know of on the car is the steering wheel, K&N air filters and the little switch to turn on the cooling fans (pictured further down the page). The TPI LB9 V8 engine sounds terrific through its stock exhaust and pulls strongly and smoothly. The transmission shifts smoothly into all gears and shift action is positive. Clutch takeup is near the top of its travel--it's a self-adjusting clutch, so this means it's getting on in life. Brakes are surprisingly good, with a solid pedal feel. The car steers and handles well. When I bought the car, the body was very straight, but the original paint was oxidized, the clear-coat was peeling, and the hue on the bumper covers had faded at a different rate than the sheetmetal. So shortly after I bought it, I had the car repainted. The paint is the original color. It's a single-stage urethane with integrated clear coat. This is not a show car. There is some overspray, including on some of the trim, and there are some nicks and imperfections such as the following: near the bottom of the driver's-side parking lot lens, some scrapes and nicks on the front spoiler, a scrape on the driver's side rear fender, a nick on the driver's door, and a few other miscellaneous nicks. Since taking these photos, I touched up a few of the nicks; I'll also give this paint to the car's new owner. Overall, the car looks really good and has been garaged most of the time since the paint job (2006). I haven't found rust anywhere. The IROC decals are new, and I have the correct IROC stripe combo kit--I just never installed it (see below). I'll include this IROC stripe kit with the car. I kind of liked the look without it, and never got around to installing it. The plastic on the original armests/door-pulls was separating from its structure, so I installed these earlier-style armests. I will also give the buyer the gray originals. Power windows and door locks work. Hatch-release switch, mechanism and self-closing motor work great. A/C does not work, but I have a new accumulator that I will include with the car. I recently bypassed the heater core when it started to leak. Both power mirrors work well. Interior is in good shape, save for normal wear-and-tear (more pictures on that below). When I bought the car, it had a steering wheel from a Pontiac Firebird. I believe the steering column was replaced, as this column and its control stalk is not equipped for cruise control. The windshield wipers only work in washer mode (wasn't a problem for me in California, driving mostly on the weekends). The steering wheel is a Grant 1470 Club Sport with a red-on-black Chevy bow-tie horn button. As you can see, the dash pad is in great shape--no cracks or tears. The headliner is new--I had it installed. Another interior shot. Rear seats are in really good shape. Driver's power seat works well. Driver's seat bolster is worn. I installed a switch to allow the driver to turn on the engine's electric cooling fans at will. There is a hairline crack that runs along the opening for the air vent register downward. The shift knob has a "bald spot" where the dried original leather wrapping has started to come off. Dash-mounted Z28 IROC-Z badging. Below is the rare Delco/Bose stereo option. I'd heard about the Delco/Bose stereo option, but hadn't seen it until this car. The last photo in the series immediatly above is of the hatch panel flipped open. I'm not an audio guy, but the driver's-side rear speaker does not seem to work due to the crossover. The driver's-side speaker goes on and off intermittently--sometimes it works fine, other times I can hardly tell if that speaker is on or not. A couple of nighttime interior shots. All gauges work. Sometimes the temperature needle gets stuck in the bezel when the car is started. When this happens, I usually knock on the plastic and the needle drops down to actual temperature. Top row: Left-front, Left rear Bottom row: Right rear, Right front Wheels are the original two-line IROCs. All have clearcoat cracking and oxidation. The right-front wheel is missing its centercap and the outer lip has a small bend (but has always held air). The newer Kumho tires on the rear are in good shape with plenty of tread depth. The Goodyears up front are getting worn out. The Tuned Port Injection badging belongs on the left side of the bumper; I simply never put it back on after paint. It broke into a few pieces when it was removed, but it could still be put back on and look good; I'll give it to the new owner. The LB9 5.0 engine runs really strong and sounds great. If the engine is warm and has been shut off for a little while, the warm re-start gives a puff of smoke due to the typical worn valve seals of this vintage F-body. The car passes CA smog, and registration is current and good through May 2012. I don't know if any significant engine work was done by a previous owner, but the engine looks dead-stock except that the TPI plenum's runners were painted red by a previous owner (along with some color inside the lines atop of the plenum). I replaced the two paper air filters with two K&N air filters. The alternator chatters a bit, but charges fine. I've done every oil change with Mobil 1 synthetic oil and a Delco filter.
