1978 Toyota LandCruiser FJ40 I own a FJ40 restoration shop and offer a few choice LandCruisers for sale each year. This FJ is one of the most special I’ve offered. If you have been searching for that blue chip Cruiser for years, you know what this is, how hard it is to find, and how much it will appreciate through the years. It has all the right stuff, is in the most desired set of model years, turn key, ready to enjoy now. This one will not last long, this combo is what my customers ask about daily, no favorites, on the open market for anyone to get a chance to own it. This FJ burned an exhaust valve in 1988 and was parked inside a garage until I bought it. 34K original miles, 100% rust free. I tried to buy this FJ for years, finally the son of the original owner sold it to me after his father passed on. I brought this FJ back from the dead, spent a lot of time and money, the end result is spectacular. Mechanical I removed the original 2F motor, had it completely rebuilt, rebuilt the carburetor and most all associated parts. Runs absolutely perfect, new clutch at the same time. I popped all the inspection covers, trans, t-case, diffs, all look brand new inside. I rebuilt everything that needed attention (rotted seals etc). New fuel tank, battery, anything you would know a vintage vehicle would need after being stored for 23 years. This FJ runs and drives just like it did off the dealer showroom. I added the coveted Warn 8274 up-right winch ($2000 new cost on those). I just installed a new muffler and aluminum radiator. Body This FJ was 100% rust free when I bought it. I look at 20 FJ40’s and buy 1, I will not buy rusty. Of the 500+ Cruisers I’ve owned this is number 1 or 2 on the rust free factor. The paint was completely original when I bought it, the hood, Fiberglass top, fenders, running boards were faded so I repainted them factory color. The rest of the body did not need repaint. I painted the fiberglass lid and headlight bezel bright white instead of off-white, makes it pop much better. The hard top and doors have never been removed, 1 finger closing on the doors, nicest I’ve ever had. I removed the lid to paint it, bolts came out easy (unheard of and only possible due to zero rust) I painted the wheels OE color, added new OE caps. All new door seals. This FJ is completely stock, not hacked on or molested in any way. I undercoated with POR-15, much better than the factory coating and a must have for back east customers. I redid the seats to factory spec, added 5 new all-season tires, owners manual and plug in light included. The plug in light is near impossible to find, and always gets lost along the way. I did not completely restore this vehicle as it does not need it, and the super high dollar FJ’s are not selling right now. While this is one of the nicest FJ40’s in the world, most of it is original paint so there is a chip or scratch here and there, no body work is needed for a complete repaint down the road. I find it absolutely incredible how clean and rust free this rig is, an impossible find in my business, obviously I’m very proud of it. I’m open to 3rd party inspections during the auction. Do not call Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections when looking in the phone book, I own that business. I require a $1000 non-refundable deposit via Paypal immediately after the auction ends (no exceptions) the remainder in full within 7 days closed auction via bank to bank wire or cashiers check.
