Vehicle Detail
1938 Buick Superior bodied combination coach. I have collected Buicks and Professional cars for over 40 years and this is one of only (4) ... 1938 Buick Superiors that I have come across. Built on a lengthened 40 series chassis, I have owned this 56,000 mile, 73 year old time capsule for over 10 years. The engine was briefly started after purchase and then oil added to the cylinders for storage. This car has been in covered storage all its life and is almost entirely rust free top and bottom. 1938 represents the first year that any coach builder (Superior) built an ALL STEEL bodied car. Prior to 1938 all coaches were wood framed and usually in need of extensive wood restoration. (EXPENSIVE) This car is 98% complete with all hard to find hearse parts as well as all side moldings and trim. Side mount cover and tail lens are the only missing items of note. This car was built by Superior with Cadillac/LaSalle door handles and tail lights. Drivers interior is complete in burgandy leatherette with a few stitches giving way, but very usable to duplicate original patterns. Rear compartment has all original (Tattered) draperies and rods for all windows along with original and complete window shades. A picture is included showing the original wood and leatherette flower trays for the rear compartment as well as the highly unusual second ambulance floor that is original and unique to this vehicle. The ambulance floor (3) pieces are laid over top the hearse (roller) floor. It has cups in the floor to hold the stretcher wheels in place along with around hole for an attendents seat for ambulance service. Bumpers were rechromed in the 80's, still wrapped in paper. Old US Royal tires hold air and the coach rolls easily. NO BRAKES!!!! MUST BE TOWED!!!!.........All glass is intact but the windshield is fogged, passenger side front window is off the track but not broken. Any questions......PLEASE ASK !!! I will try to answer any and all questions to the best of my ability. If you are interested in restoring an older coach of this vintage......this is the one you want ! Most 37-38 Buick parts are easily obtained. THIS CAR IS SOLD "AS IS CONDITION" and "WHERE IS". ....New owner is responsible for all transport fees. THIS CAR IS SOLD WITH A BILL OF SALE ONLY Payment in cash, money order or cashiers check only.........Car will be released 10 days after payment is received.
