Vehicle Detail
1987 Porsche 944 Turbo, White with Black leather. 137,750 miles and a story... I have created a video that covers the mechanicals plus a view of the turbo gauge when the car is at full throttle. The photo shows less miles - the car has under 137,750 at present. I sold this car new for over $36,000 (in 1987!) and drove to Portland to pick this car up for the customer. I loved it. When I delivered the car to her, I said if she ever sold it, I'd buy. Happily I bought it from her in 1994 and have had it ever since. Always garaged, new tires, new Brakes, never in an accidents; no body work, all original paint. Never smoked in, runs and drives great. The car is very clean inside and out. Well maintained. I have all maintenance records. Since 2001 the car has been expertly services by Lief Johnson at Autoworks NW who races 944 Turbos and maintains/repairs customer Porsches - he is happy to answer any questions - email me for his phone number. The service history is unremarkable until about 104,000 miles (2000) when the exhaust pipe's internal material imploded. This resulted in a blown turbo, however Barrier Porsche misdiagnosed it as needing a head gasket - which they replaced at no charge to me. That's when I went to Lief Johnson - who accurately diagnosed the exhaust pipe, installed a new one and a new turbo. He also installed a new computer chip that increased HP to about 265 and improved the gas mileage. I can get about 450 on a tank of gas - about 25 mpg! New Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires and alignment along with a new timing belt at 130,000 miles, new cross drilled rotors and brakes about 131,000 miles, passed its last emission inspection recently. Car has been babied, nurtured, loved and treasured. Always garaged; no cracks in dash. I promised myself I'd keep it forever, but have succumbed to the desire to buy a new car and can do so as soon as I sell this. Buying a car without seeing it is hard. Buying a 24 year old car even harder. I'm proud of this car, though it is not perfect. I'm going to do something that might be stupid; but my intention is to facilitate a sale to someone who appreciates me being very upfront. I am going to list and show every little scratch and ding in an effort remove any mystery about buying a 24 year old Porsche. I would hop in the car and drive cross country without hesitation. The paint is all original; never had any body work done. I was toying with replacing the clear decals around the wheel wells, but have not done that. There is one very small ding in the front driver's quarter panel. The roof above the driver's door has a small indentation where I think some idiot mechanic put his hand to pull himself up. I could probably have that popped out for $100; I just never did because it isn't very visible. If I took it in to do those minor body items, it would be nearly perfect. I was going to do that this summer, but now that I am selling I haven't bothered. The AC works. I put a new clutch in the car at 40,000 when I purchased it. The lady who had it apparently was hard on the clutch; I am not. I've always babied the car believing I would never sell it. The car has sat quite a lot for the last five years as I took a job for 6 days a week and had another car to drive. I am picky about leaks - it does not leak anything. The coolant has recently been flushed and the oil changed 200 miles ago. I've used Mobile 1 for years. The personalized license plate is no longer on the car and does not come with it. The car is currently licensed in WA state.
