Vehicle Detail
1963 Toyota LandCruiser FJ40 I own a FJ40 restoration shop and offer a few LandCruisers for sale a year. This 63 is a ground up restoration just completed, intended as a boulevard cruiser for my wife, but she would like a new sports car instead so here is my work up for sale. The pic of this cruiser blue/green is how I bought it original paint, it had no rust, had been parked in a shop since 1981 due to the original motor being blown up. This was the perfect resto candidate. 1960-3 FJ40’s are extremely rare, if you match up the pics to newer cruisers you can see the difference. Of the 500+ cruisers I’ve owned, I’ve only had 3 of these early years. I built this FJ to be on the top of the driver scale, I did not build it to museum trailer queen status. I have a tremendous amount of money and time invested in the FJ40. I’ve built countless 75k plus cruisers, the economy does not dictate that now, so here is a super nice version at a fraction of perfection cost. If you want the most “unique” and rare of the 40’s, here it is. This truck is emissions exempt due to 1963 model year in every state but….. (check your state just to be sure as things change faster than I can keep up) Copy and paste the photo bucket link below in your browser to view 102 pics of this truck before/during/after. http://s953.photobucket.com/albums/ae11/fj40man79/1963%20Silver%20FJ40/ Mechanical The motor is a brand new rebuilt Chevy small block 350. I started with the good high nikel 0010 block, did a nice mild performance build. I built this motor for torque, it’s right at the 300HP range, dialed in perfectly. HEI electonic ignition, stage 2 quadrajet carburetor rebuild, aluminum intake, ram-horn exhaust (much better than leaky headers). 140 amp alternator, electric fuel pump. Rebuilt GM Turbo TH 350 automatic transmission, mild shift kit, best internal parts money can buy. No stall speed torque converter, must have for 4x4’s. Hurst auto floor shifter. The SBC conversion is very popular in FJ40’s, hardly anyone does the automatic trans conversion as it is so expensive. My wife wanted auto so she got it, much more fun and easier to drive than the 3 on the tree this cruiser came with. Brand new painless wiring harness and lights throughout. You will never have to chase down wiring in this one, all brand new, very costly to do that as well. The factory heaters are very weak in these years, so I upgraded the heater/defroster to a modern day unit, blows 3 times harder than the original. The brakes are rebuilt, custom drive lines are balanced. Brand new dual exhaust with chrome tips, hot rod Flowmaster mufflers, sounds amazing. Cruising speed with this configuration is 65-70mph. Body The most important thing on any FJ40 build are the rust issues. I look at 20 FJ40’s and buy 1. Even in my dry climate most FJ’s are rusted out badly. I only buy rust free units, they are hard to find. This FJ was 99% rust free to begin with due to it being in storage since 1981 in the high desert climate. Also, stay away from any FJ40 without the original hard top and doors, there are many reasons why, typically it has been rolled or flopped on it‘s side, the top and doors do not fit and never will. All the panels are original to this truck, notice the design difference in the windshield frame with the “bug catcher” opening and the hard top style compared with newer cruisers. I painted this FJ in a two tone silver/charcoal PPG base and clear coat. The paint is fresh and looks great, I left the factory spot welds in the body and top. On the 75k FJ’s I restore, I usually work all the spot welds out, some people prefer them to be left alone, I think it adds character so I left them on this one. The frame and underside is coated with POR-15, a must have for anyone in a wet climate, much better than the factory coating. The inside of the tub is rhino-lined for durability. Every seal is new in this vehicle, all the glass is good. All new lights, rebuilt wiper motors, most everything is new or refurbished in this truck. New stainless steel bolts and nuts throughout. Small 2 in lift with 32/11.5/15 BFG tires at 95% tread on Weld Racing aluminum wheels. This year FJ40 did not come with a factory roll bar, it came with the long style jump seats in the rear. I installed a Man-A-Fre made roll bar (I think every FJ requires a roll bar). Those rear jump seats do not work with the roll bar, I can add a new rear bench seat if desired. Some people prefer just the front seats, so up to you. This FJ was just completed and had only test/tune miles on it, get the advantage of a new restoration without the cost or time involved. Cost on this resto with the core vehicle would be double my asking price. I want to be clear and say this is not a 75k FJ40, this is one of the nicest FJ40’s out there at a realistic price. If you demand perfection in every aspect, I can build you one. I’ve sold FJ40’s all over the world for years sight unseen with 100% satisfaction on eBay and in other forums, I prefer to keep it that way, please email me with any questions or concerns. I’m open to any 3rd party inspection, I own Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections so skip me when looking in the phone book. Everyone’s expectations are different, I encourage you to look at this vehicle or have someone with your interests in mind to look during the auction. If you buy through eBay you own it. Shipping within the lower 48 is easy, I get you the quote, you pay the shipper directly. $600-1100 depending on shipping lanes. Shipping to Canada is more tricky, but it can be done. International (overseas) shipping is expensive and requires a lot of paperwork, email me on your location before bidding. I require a $1000 non-refundable deposit via paypal immediately after the auction ends (no exceptions) the remainder in bank to bank wire transfer or cashiers check within 7 days closed auction. I hold a clean and clear WA state title for this truck and the original 1963 WA license plate which is included. I overnight you the title after full payment is received. I will deliver this truck up to 300 miles from Benton City WA at $1.50 a loaded mile. Truck and fuel must be paid for before it leaves my property (no exceptions) I also provide a professional appraisal on this truck for the buyer. A must have for insurance purposes. Not a dime less will be accepted, hope this saves us all time, no haggle bottom line. Had a couple offers in the low 18k range, will consider if it does not sell in the auction. So much interest I doubt it will last that long, a quality cruiser like this under 20k is rare, I sell every FJ I have on eBay in the first auction, I don't go on fishing expeditions like most others. Thanks! Also have a 34k original mile 78 FJ40 I just listed on eBay.On Aug-30-11 at 16:30:40 PDT, seller added the following information:This restoration has about 200 miles on it. I plan to completely detail this FJ before delivery, coat of wax etc. The new radiator sprung a leak today, so I ordered a new aluminum unit, most likely will be ready to ship Sept 5th or 6th. From all the interest looks like it will sell in the next couple days, just wanted to give a heads up as I require that I work out any bugs I can before delivery. Thanks!
