Vehicle Detail

1987 Mercedes 560SL This is the last of the 107 series of SL convertibles and by far the best. With the 5.6 liter V8 engine, is has the most powerful engine of the entire series from 1972 to 1989. The '87,'88,'89 are the newest, most desirable, drivable and fun of the entire 17 year run for this body style. As the last of the series, these cars include such modern conveniences and safety items as driver side air bag, ABS braking and a multiplicity of power accessories. It is also the most powerfull and responsive ones I have ever driven of this model. It is not only very fast it is also excedingly quick! This car is in Pristine Condition with a perfect convertible top and matching red hard top. This car drives, performs, feels and looks and even smells like a car with less than 50K miles in every way. Clean and tight, no rust what so ever, responsive and smooth driving at all speeds. Interior leather shows little to no wear and interior door panels are perfect. Seats are oem leather and less than 3 years old. Visors and all minor trim are like new. Matching red hard top has the rear window defogger/de-icer. Complete tool kit and owners paperwork, two keys and master key (red dot) are included. Car has new matching Michelin Tires (including spare). Due to age and polishing of the original finish, car was completely stripped (all exterior trim removed) and re-painted with a prefessional color coat /clear coat Glasurit paint finish in the original color (over 5K alone). Finish and appearance is outsanding. Even pinstripping is factory correct and painted - no cheap tape here! I get compliments and questions as to whether it has just been polished every time I drive it. I also chaged the stainless bumber covers and headlight bezels and much of the aluminum trim which also contribute to its overall like new appearance. Car is a two owner car (not including dealers). I aquired it from a dealer in Naples 5 years ago where the car was a vacation condo car for a wealth couple from up north. (See CAFAX report) The car was and is currently garage kept and shows it - No expense spared in maintenance under my stewardship of this fine classic. Only OEM/Mercedez Benz parts used in maintaining it to the condition you see here. Full maintenance history available. Over 20K in maintenance. All options and accessories fully functional including: Air Conditioning Cruise Control Power windows and Mirror Central locking system (including trunk) Vanity Mirror/Sun visors (both sides) ABS SRS - (driver side air bag) Car does have some very minor and typical issues which keep it from being absolutely perfect and complete honesty forces me to relate the following: The dash pad has two minor (less than an inch) cracks at the defrost vents (both filled) and one (also filled) on the side of the main instrument binnacle. Finally, the glove box liner is not tight around the light which, to be perfect, should be replaced - That's it and that's all. Inspections welcome - no dissapointments. From previous listing, several callers have asked the following questions: No: The car has never been wrecked. Yes: The Radio in NOT original. The original left a lot to be desired as to quality - and besides - who out there still has cassette tapes? The radio in the car is a PIONEER and comes with a CD Player and an auxiliary jack for listening to my I-phone...... sounds magnificant. No: I on longer have the original broken radio No: Those are Not original speakers on the rear package tray. I had them installed with the radio and the interior carpet package when I replaced both about 3 years ago. Yes: The power antenna works - geez is there any end to this? Are these guys buying a car or a mobile radio ? No: the car has no mechanical problems. Engine starts at first turn of the key without any smoke, hesitation or missing and pulls strong - no warm up required before driving although, when I can, I personally wait about a minute or so before driving off just so that the oil can circulate when it is cold. It is an honest to goodness car you could get into and drive accross the state or accross the country. Yes: Complete exhaust system has been replaced from the manifolds back about three years ago. Yes: I have all receipts for all work done to the car. ( excellent question and I am sorry I did not mention it earlier) No: I will not reveal the reserve due to local listing for a bit more. However - there are a lot of 560 SL's out there. When I looked for this one, the price was about what they go for now on average (8 - 11K) for a fairly decent example. I must have looked at 20 or more before buying this one, This car was, by far, the best of the bunch back then. I have really enjoyed the car and spent way more than double what I paid for it over the last few years getting it up to and keeping it to the condition you see here. I actually get compliments at the local MB dealer when I take it to go pick up the odd part. If your looking for a driver/beater this is not your car. Keep looking there are a lot of them out there! I am seeking a fair price and some one who will honestly appreciate the car for what it is and what it would cost to get a really good one up to this condition. I am negotiable within reason. I am realistic as to price but do not intend to give it away - so you last minute bottom feeders - please do not call - your wasting both our time. ok? Yes - The wheels were refinished about the same time as the car was painted - about 5 years ago when I got it. Have aquired only a few nicks and no scraps since then. No - The center wheel caps are not original but are OEM Mercedes - I just thought the car needed a little chrome. No - The hard top was not painted when the car was painted - Didn't need it. Yes - the idle control valve was changed and so was the fuel pressure regulator, I would have to look into records for service to find out when. Yes - the coolant reservoir tank is new (about 6 months old). The hood insulatin was sagging at the corner and the foam backing was failing so it was also just changed. Yes - grill was refinished to match original smoke grey color.... again same time as the car was painted.... new center star just installed - no road rash here!..... By now you must think I'm a bit off.... Yes - the engine was detailed by me - I do it about once a year.....Good therapy - and helps keeps the wife and kids at bay!....Helps when I need to check or change something - saves a lot of time.
