Vehicle Detail

The Austin Morris Mini was made by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors from 1959 until 2000. The original is considered a British icon of the 1960’s, and its space-saving front wheel drive layout influenced a generation of car-makers. In 1999, the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th Century, behind the Ford Model T and one of the first examples from 1959 is now on display at the National Motor Museum in Hampshire. The very first example, with the now iconic registration plate "621 AOK", is on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Warwickshire. The Mk. III Mini built from 1969 had a modified body shell, the most obvious changes were larger doors with concealed hinges. Customer demand led to the sliding windows being replaced with winding windows, the suspension reverted from Hydrolastic to rubber cones as a cost-saving measure. Production at the Cowley plant was ended, and the simple name Mini completely replaced the separate Austin and Morris brands. Reports of the Mini's imminent demise surfaced again in 1980 with the launch of the Austin Mini-Metro. Although the Mini continued after the Metro's launch, production volumes were reduced as British Leyland and successor combine Rover Group concentrated on the Metro as its key supermini. Indeed, 1981 was the Mini's last year in the top ten of Britain's top selling cars, as it came ninth and the Metro was fifth. Although the Metro never actually replaced the Mini, production figures for the Mini dipped during the 1980s, and interest in the now-iconic design was not revived until the re-introduction of the famous Mini Cooper in 1989. This helped the car retain its desirability and driver appeal throughout the 1990’s, right up to the end of production on the 4th October 2000. A total of 1,581,887 Minis were sold in Britain after its launch in 1959. The last new Mini to be registered was sold in 2004, some four years after the end of production. This Mini is totally original, having covered only 32,xxx miles in total. The condition is commensurate with a cherished, little used, motorcar. The interior is a great looking Austin plaid with very little wear. Additionally this car has driver and passenger side mirrors and sports the popular 10” original mini lite wheels made in Britain. The paint has a old patina to with some areas that have been touched up. Condition of the body is above average for it’s age with very little rust and solid floor panels. There is one spot in the driver side floor panel that would need some attention but it is a small area. The rear seat pan and trunk are in great condition. The power plant is a 998 with the automatic transmission. The transmission does slip in all gears. The car is drivable but would need to be repaired. You can contact Jon Jon@jpat.co.uk They have all the parts to rebuild the automatic transmission. I simply have no time and too many projects to tackle the repair. This Mini would be a great addition to anyone’s family. PLEASE TAKE NOTE: FOR SOME REASON E-BAY WOULD NOT LET ME PUT THE VIN # IN UNDER A 1981, SO IT SAYS 1980 BECAUCE 1981 IS THE CUT OFF. I HAVE CLEAR TITLE IN HAND AND THIS I THE VIN # ON IT. Good luck bidding.
