ABOUT US: Thank you for looking at this auction. First, you may wonder about our name, the Regal Gift Company. We used to be active sellers of aviation collectibles some years ago but no longer do so. So, we are not car dealers or wholesalers, just plain folk who love old Mercedes and buying and selling on eBay. A LITTLE ABOUT THE CAR You are viewing a pristine 100% original 133k actual mile (average of 4800 miles per year) 1983 240D that is becoming very difficult to find in this condition. In 2009 it was purchased by a retired Mercedes mechanic, who lived in Wisconsin where it was given very loving care. It was the intention to tour the US in this vehicle and it was gone over by this expert mechanic. Due to health reasons he needed to sell the car which is when I bought it in 2010. I love mint low-mileage German autos, I'll do my best to describe the condition as precisely as possible. If I miss something please let me know and I’ll do my best to help. The reason I am selling this beauty is that I simply no longer have the time to drive it and it is time for another enthusiast to enjoy it. As an overview, this car looks, runs, feels and drives exactly like one would expect a garaged and well maintained low mileage 240D should. Being a collector I have maintained this car to the highest level during my ownership. These cars are well known to last many hundreds of thousands of miles with proper maintenance. The 1983 model is the last year for the venerable 240D series and, as such, all of the refinements Mercedes made over the years are incorporated into this model. This particular sample is finished in a white exterior with blue interior. It comes equipped with automatic transmission, sliding steel sunroof, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, dual power mirrors, cruise control and aftermarket radio. The previous owner installed a JVC radio and the original Becker is not with the car. MECHANICAL All mechanical components on the car are completely original except for normal wear items (brakes, battery etc...). Having been maintained by Mercedes techs since new, the mechanical condition is simply superb. The original 2.4L engine exhibits zero wear with perfect compression (over 400 lbs.) in each cylinder. It starts instantly running quietly with virtually no smoke. I always use a diesel fuel conditioner to ensure that no fuel system damage occurs from the ultra low sulfer fuels in current use. The original fuel injection system functions perfectly with no leaks. The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and runs smooth. The 4-wheel disc brakes are powerful providing quick, straight stopping. The suspension is tight and supple with no clunks, squeaks or other noises. The steering is tight and precise. The air conditioning system has all of the original components and functions as it should and is cold. All power equipment functions as they should. The vacuum system (for power locks, etc...) works perfectly with no leaks. As you can see from the pictures, the engine bay is spectacular, the previous owner did a masterful job of detailing the engine bay and it shows. During my ownership I have completed the following service items: Four new Bridgestone Turanza tires, transmission fluid change, rear differential oil change, coolant flush, brake fluid flush, air filter, valve adjustment, new valve cover gasket. I only use 100% German parts on my cars . Replace vacuum element for trunk and fuel door. Replace blower switch resistor Replace brake sensor harness Replace idle advance knob and cable Replace motor mounts Replace transmission mounts Replace fuel filter, pre filter and fuel lines Drained fuel tank and replaced fuel strainer in tank Replace all seal rings, accel lever and vacuum box Replace right front power window switch Replace windshield washer tank and all seals EXTERIOR: Having been stored indoors it's entire life the paint retains virtually of it's exceptional luster. The paint, chrome and rubber window/bumper seals are all in simply stunning condition as evidence to it's minimal exposure to the elements. There are no door dings present. The paint exhibits only very minor normal wear from 133k miles of careful driving. A small number of tiny stone chips on the leading edge of the hood have been touched up with the correct MB touch up paint. The car has never been in an accident, and all of the paint is factory original. The car has no rust anywhere. Even the common rust areas under the doors, wheel well openings and under the sun roof, are completely free of any current or prior rust. The underbody is very clean and dry with exhaust parts in perfect shape. INTERIOR: In a word the interior is simply stunning. UV rays damage every part of a car's interior when left outside. Tthe interior looks just about new anywhere you look. The dash has absolutely no cracks. The headliner, seats, door panels, dash and carpet exhibit virtually no wear or aging in their appearance. The seats are firm and supportive and display none of the typical sagging that plagues many older MB cars. All dash lights work properly. The enormous factory sunroof opens/closes with smooth precision. The power windows perform flawlessly. The seats are MB TEX which is of course some of the most durable upholstery ever made. During my ownership, the car has always started on the first attempt and runs very strong. However, these cars will never win any speed races but that is not why they were built. I have tried to provide a thorough explanation about the car as well as a number of pictures. Please let me know if you would like more information. The previous owner liked the Euro headlight look. If you do not prefer that look the original headlight buckets and turn lens come with the car, they are in fair shape, should you wish to change them back to original. Please do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone at (770) 634-7600 with any questions you may have. (I live in south Florida but yes that is a Georgia area code. When I moved here I never bothered to change the number, sorry for any confusion)
